1996 instrument harness
Hey guys
got a rolling shell from a 93 FD and it has parts of its wiring missing. I've got a box of harnesses I've accumulated over the years and some is pre 96 some post 96 so basically 8bit and 16bit harnesses mixed together.
Ive managed to sort the main front U shape harness and engine harness as 16bit which is fine....but I have a question regarding the instrument harness ( the one that attaches to the actual dashboard. Is there any way of telling an 8 bit from a 16bit? It seems to be virtually identical so would it even matter?
the only thing I can see different from memory, in my 93 FD there's that light dimmer rolling switch on the AC Panel to lower or raise the dash lighting when it's on, this instrument harness I have doesn't have a plug for that.....so is this a later spec harness? As my 93 car has a plug for this, and from memory some later spec FDs don't have this dimmer switch, it's just a blanking plastic tab in its place.

Well, I just learned me something . Did a Google image search and you're right, I've never noticed that!
Speaking as to the harness itself, I'm don't have that deep of a familiarity with the RHD and JDM harnesses, but the evidence supports what you're thinking. I think most of the plugs for non-ECU stuff are pretty much the same, so I would be surprised if that harness wouldn't work just fine.

Thanks for the response, yeah I was thinking it should be pretty much the same bar the engine/front main/dashboard harness. It was the only difference I could notice between this and an earlier harness.
I was only scratching my head as the later clocks had the boost gauge instead of the oil pressure so was wondering if the wires would be different on the cluster plug which may interfere with things.
im just going to hook everything up and see what happens, I'm trying to fit all 16bit looms in place throughout the car but without a RHD wiring manual it's tough to figure out what plugs to keep/delete as I want to remove the wires I don't need for simplicity and clean install. Been using the USDM manual and the wiring seem svery similar but I have noticed a few wires in certain pin positions differ from what I've got in my loom....it's quite interesting tbh

Have a look here regarding the later model clusters and installing them in earlier model cars.
