"What, the Miata?"

nope. 1020 M2 is the longer name, it's been referred to as the 'phantom FD'.

anybody?

well, my japanese isn't really up to par. from the site i got the idea that it was a concept special edition in 95 that didn't make it into production. however they made a few cars to test the package or whatever and now those handfull are sought after as collectibles.

or it could be the same deal as the "SP1/SP2" cars but in japan. no biggy.

It was intended as a clubman special - for circuit racers - extensively tuned and tested, but never went into production - I believe only 1 (or 2) were made.

Hey, I never disagreed with you guys. I also have never heard of an FD convertible from the factory. All I was saying was that I got an offer from a Japanese auction house and they had a 1993 convertible which confused us because of the year of manufacture. I thought it was interesting enough to post on the possibility of an FD convertible out there that never made it into full production because they tend to do things like that in Japan.. with all their limited editions and market research small number variations. Anyways, to make a long story short, I finally got word from the supplier in Japan.. it’s a 1993 FC3S .. so if anyone wants a 1993 FC Convert .. let me know

Hey.. How is that car on the road ? I went to have a look at the RX8 and thought that the Mazdaspeed Protege seemed like the better buy for 10 G's less with what they came with and with the RX8 HP being in the 210-220 range.

What's the HP output on those things ? What do you get with the performance package ..if that's what they call it ?

Actually you said this:

This is shocking at the least. I thought that with all the rotary fans out there in the world, with all the research and time I've spent on the internet .. all those web sites I've visited..in all parts of the world,.. I really thought I knew it all when it comes to the types of FD's made.. well.. this is a first.. a 1993 Mazda RX7 Convertible ??!!? is this possible.. YES.
Bollocks.

You came on declaring the entire body of knowledge on this forum was wrong about the existence of OEM FD convertibles. You were wrong, and now you are backpedalling as fast as you can. You had found through your sources, the existence of a car model that noone from the manufacturer had ever heard of, and which the authors of very extensive books on the subject had missed. This was because of the ignorance of everyone else in the world except you. It was only through your exhaustive research that this secret had finally been uncovered. Truly, now you were ready to take your place amongst the more respected posters here, due to your contribution.

I have no doubt that your next discovery will be the OEM 20B FD.

The forum is waiting.

from the article Majik gaves a link to...

<< Besides, Canepa’s personal experience confirmed the sequential turbos promoted lag >>

Haaa??
I thought the whole point of sequential turbos was to ELIMINATE lag??

That, and I thought the whole "oohs and aahs" thing Mazda got when it came out w/ the FD was that they pioneered the first sequential turbo system (among other things). At least that's what I read in the little book about RX7s that came w/ the car...
