Just out of curiousity, what's the top end of a STOCK FD? Isn't like 157 mph or something close?

I've had mine up to 172 or so. It did top out at 150 up hill, but it started pulling again at the top of the hill. I did have rpms left, although I don't know exactly where I was in the rpms. I was too freaked to take my eyes off the road.

just remember the speedo isn't exactly accurate at those speeds either... plus taking in to account rim/tire size variations that can throw off the speedo even more

Would film speed have the ability to either blurr or freeze the backround?

hahah, I must stift to early out of 4th when I'm racing then, I think I always drop to 5th once I hit 130...
Then again, my speedo could be off 8-10mph @ that speed...

180 isn't hard to do in an FD. Finding a hwy that is:
1) straight
2) no cops
3) clean of traffic or stupid people
is what makes it difficult.
lol... emphasis on point number 3: who would be more stupid than the FD owner that decides to do 180+ mph on a highway thats open to the public???? keeping that in mind, its impossible to find a hwy thats clean of stupid people if someone wants to perform this fabulous task- there will always be atleast one.

I've done 160 mph; still had more power, just ran out of track before a turn was coming. ~400 rwhp helps on this...

The video is called "Getaway From Stockholm 2" I believe. About the 210 thing, I don't think so out of a BPU Supra. Stock I don't think they have the gearing to hit that. It does show the Supras tach at a little past 300 Km/h. So whatever that works out to be.

Re: 180 mph+ in an FD?

[i]my buddie says he will give me 500 bucks if he can see an fd do 197mph on a dyno.... [/B]
I'll videotape a dyno run of 197 if you pay for the dyno run and maybe $50 for my time, for some reason i doubt you're buddy is actually gonna pay you $500, i got 19" rims on mine, so i could probably get well over 200 on a dyno, obviously not in real life, in fact i think the taller rims and tires hurt my top speed, i get to the top of 4th no problem, probably putting down 400 rwhp or so, but then 5th is so tall that the lack of power at the lower rpms in fifth isn't enough to overcome the drag to get to the higher rpms. I never did a top speed run with the stock wheels, but i'm sure i'd have enough power to get to 180 or so. But when i topped out the car with the 19's i got to the top of foruth no problem - 140 on the speedo, probably more like 160 (the speedo reads 60 at about 68-70mph), but when i shifted to fifth the speedo got up to about 143-145 and stayed right there. I guess my fifth with the bigger wheels and tires acts more like a sixth gear for some other cars that top out in 5th gear and have 6th as a cruising gear, i.e. C5 vette's among others.

I hit about 158 in my fd. Alot of things are useless at these kind of speeds, wipers, drivers side mirror begins to shake, the radio was off so i dont know if the antenna would fly off "twister style". Pretty scarry stuff, but its the smoothest 158 ive ever been at...

Exactly, if my hand was at 3 o' clock, then you can't see the speedo.

If you took a picture or video from an airplane or helicopter, things are still clear cause they are moving by slower when it's farther away. Those look a little too small to be trees wouldn't you say, or maybe they're just far away!

That was on the 5 South in the middle of nowhere with no one around, taken about 1 year ago. Yes, I was one crazy ****. I didn't value my life that much when I did it.

I don't recommend doing that kind of speeding unless it's on a track, with a rollcage, proper harnesses, and you're alone. The car felt like it was floating. I even went around a slight curve at one point, which was scarey as ****.

What people need to remember is that most car speedos are inaccurate at higher speeds, so if in your stock FD, the needle is pegged at 180, you're probably really doing about 160 or so. Someone needs to get one of those digital speedos that use GPS (they have little ones that plug in and can be mounted anywhere for like $100) that measure your EXACT top speed by using GPS satellite to measure your time/distance to calculate the speed of the car, so it doesn't matter how your car is geared or how big your rims are.

my buddie says he will give me 500 bucks if he can see an fd do 197mph on a dyno....
Well, you are gonna be 500 bucks richer pretty easily, my friend. Anyone in any car can hit redline in top gear on a dyno, that doesn't prove **** because the car is STANDING STILL! A V6 Mustang could probably go 200 MPH on a dyno! 98% of all cars' top speeds are limited by aerodynamic drag; it becomes so great at higher speeds that eventually the car doesn't have enough power to overcome it and tops out. The Ferrari 360 is one of the only cars I can think of that can hit redline in top gear, because it is geared so short and also pretty aerodynamic (and powerful of course). I think an FD would have to have a pretty damn good amount of power to go over 180.

Peace

BTW: I'm not sure if your gonna hit 197mph on a dyno. I was talking with a guy that owns the dyno I was doing pulls on and he said he only saw one guy get to 200mph on his dyno. It was a 700rwhp Vette which did it just to get a pic of his speedometer. Perhaps if they did not put anyload on the dyno or something like that you could do it. I would really recommend you to not try to put it on jack stands and go in to 5th to test it out if you were thinking about that...

Good luck

BTW: How much rwhp are you putting down?
