13b cosmo

I was talking to the owner of a local rotary performance shop less then a month back and he informed me that the stock ports on the 13b cosmo engine are bigger then the ports on a street ported 13b from a 3rd gen. I had my car at the shop (which is a highly modded project 3rd gen) and the owner said if he was to build a project car he would use the 13b cosmo (he had sitting on a table at the time) due to the fact that the initial ports are bigger therefor leaving more room to enhance porting and end up with bigger ports then the physical structure of the 3rd gen engine would allow and therefor create more power. The reason I am posting this is because it seems a little far fetched to me but i really do not have much knowledge of the 13b cosmo engine so I am looking for a reply as to whether this true or not. At the time it seemed to me that the shop owner was a little jealous of my car which was built by a shop other then his and I thought mabey he made this theory up to act as if he was a better builder then the shop I purchused my car from. I am just searching for an answer to this.

yes, the cosmo will yield a larger port, but the 3rd gen engine has been putting out plenty of power for quite some time now. the question is. . . what power are you looking for?

id say the guy just wants to sell you an engine and do whatever with yours. when he builds you an engine using the RE motor hed have to use the REW stat. gears and some other items in order for it to be worthwhile. otherwise, you end up with an engine with larger ports and weak structure.

pretty much. . . id say build your REW. itd be cheaper and that always outweighs the difference in power output. hahahaha

The side ports on the Cosmo is larger by about 1/2" compared to the REW , but the internal ports of both engines seem very close in size .If you really "port out" either one you can will reach to the SAME maximum port size , so it doesn't make sense spending the money to buy a Cosmo . You can open up your REW's side ports to match the Cosmos' , I'm having the exact thing done now. The internals of the REW are also more superior and suited to higher HP levels.

just do a search under my user name for Cosmo. I basically had an FD motor with intake ports the same size as a stock cosmo, larger exhaust ports and cosmo intake manifolds.
