12psi Switchover Dangerous?
12psi Switchover Dangerous?
My car is running beautifully and very strong. I have a Apexi Intake on it right now and the free flow is raising the switchover peak. It hits in real cold weather around 12psi but doesnt spike during solid boost. It only raises this high during the switchover. After flooring it plenty of times the motor is still running strong. Is it a problem? I know if the car spikes too 12 its harmful and can cause it to detonate, in my situation it just touches it briefly during switchover. What do you guys suggest??? Stock airbox or am i fine???
Yeah, you'll probably be fine, but I would consider adjusting it.
You may want to check the pretension in the precontrol acutator. Generally they say there should be about 1-2mm of stretch in the actuator when the pc door is closed. So when the precontrol actuator arm is disconnected from the door arm, the hole of the actuator reaches about halfway over the pin, and you have to stretch the actuator spring a bit to put it together. If that's not the case, I recommend adjusting it until it does.
If the prestretch is within spec, then you could try to shorten the precontrol rod a little bit (like a half turn of the threaded rod) and increase that prestretch a touch so that it vents just a little less boost into the secondary during prespool.
