100mph leak...or something

ok let me get to the point..

-ran car to about 100
-then felt like a speed limiter kiked in
-lost all power...equivilent to a mo-ped
-loud exhaust, shaky engine
-pull over to parking lot, car stalls
-start it back up drive it home keeping the r's up
-Not a coolant promblem, no overheat, no smell, etc. (new motor)
Checked vac lines and downpipe. what else could there be? A leak big enough to stall the engine is unmistakable.
Thanks for any help,
KEN

Better start saving....

If you were WOT and overboosting, you may have experienced Fuel-Cut(?) Is the Engine still idling rough?? If so, check your IC Hoses/Clamps. Make sure they're on tight.

Check for codes using the Diagnosis jumper then reset the ECU and see how it responds. Could of went into limp mode.

Make the following inspections in this order.

1. Map sensor hose (both ends)
2. compression test (both housings)
3. balances (bank and credit card)

That's classic!

Note: If Inspection #3 is negative, continue to drive until #3 becomes positive

I honestly think some of you people would check the map sensor if your radio didnt work.

I have never, on any rx-7 I've worked on or owned, had a map sensor hose come off. Not saying it isnt possible, but it isn't the cure-all that many of you claim.

It just so happens that it's one of those "I never thought of that" last things on your list typa items that ppl skip. I personally had it happen to me, and I thought I had blown my engine I was gonna cry lol. Since then, I started paying attention to it on the forum, and there are quite a number of ppl who run into the same scenario, and it turns out to be nothing more than the hose d/c from the MAP sensor. Can't hurt to check it anyways, now can it?

It doesn't matter if you got the motor put in last week....you have the symptoms of a blown motor. Get the compression checked.

What are your mods?

Happened to me too. Car runs, but like crap. No power on the low end and have to ply clutch gas games to get it rolling so it won't stall. All lines are good. Fuel cut was not the problem. Sensors all metered good. BLOWN MOTOR. If your exhaust sounds more like your driving a boat and your engine shakes like you have huge cams your engine is blown. On the possitive end of that....good time for some upgrades and if you are willing to put the hours in to it....it isn't that expensive. You may not have a lot of damage to your internals and it could be an "easy" fix.

Question...how many miles on the new engine before the problem?
