$20k for parts, what would you get?!?!?!

Okay, right now I'm in a bind. While I have been looking to sell my car and buy something else, the thought occured to me, why spend all that money on a new car? Why not just drop it into my 7 and keep it?

So what could be done for $20k? Considering I have some small things done: PFC, FMIC, Intakes, DP, MP, CB, coil-overs, rims, body kit, TwinPower, Y-pipe

I guess I would be looking into a LARGE turbo and a built motor. What kinda hp numbers should I be able to pull out with that kind of money?

I would save a little bit more and have pettit do a 3 rotor conversion.

I'm with you there, if you are only looking for power. Honestly I would get all suspension upgrades, single turbo, and everthing else you don't already have.

RatedR1 couldnt have said it better. Personally, id have Pettit srop the 20b in there, or, just get a ported motor and a single, and call it a day.

Do you feel happy with the way your car is right now?

Isn't the 3Rotor a lot more maintenance? And more likely to have problems unless you really know what you are doing with it and how to tune it right? With 20k, I'd go with a few more reliablity mods, then maybe port it, single turbo would also be nice, maybe a little body work, and a new paint job or wheels. I wouldnt spend all my money in one sitting. I'd save it up for a future reman or just something else.

what's your goal for the car?

I don't know what stage of life you are in but since your car sounds decently modded now, why don't you use the money as a house down payment? Or save it for retirement. Whatever. I just can't imagine blowing most of my savings or living paycheck to paycheck just to add mods.

I agree with rynberg here that if I had 20k to blow that I would spend a little here and there but save most of it for something more important or for emergency. But if you have to spend it then get a new Streetported Motor or Bridgeport if you want and a large single turbo system. Then you will need a good fuel system and suspension as well.
So:
1. Streetport Motor $4000
2. Single Turbo Setup $4000
3. Fuel Sytem $800
4. Suspension $2000
5. Clutch and Flywheel $1000
6. Dyno Tuning $400
7. Paint Job $3000
Save the rest for repairs and misc. other ****.

Get another RX-7 that cost 10K and put 10K into it starting reliability and upgrade again.
So now you have a spare car to have fun with

20B conversion. You'd save a ton of cash if you did it yourself... provided you do it correctly the first time.

$20K? Buy into a mutual fund, real estate, etc. Don't waste $20K cash on "upgrading" your FD, there will be no return on that investment.

The market is in the toilet right now, it will come back, it should be easy to make a really good return on that $20K within a couple of years.

What do you want to use the car for? An all out race car or more of a street cruiser?

I think the 20B would be more trouble then it's worth. Unless you do it yourself, it's gonna cost a lot more then $20K to do the conversion.

Get a beater and save the money for a Renesis engine + big turbo. Can't wait to see the potential of that engine.

Well incase you didnt realize the stuff you listed in your post after having your car painted because of the body kit would run 15K, leaves just enought for a good motor, fuel system, datalogit, and dyno tuning....when they do the motor get them to make you non seq so if you ever decide to go single it will be easy to do.

Would I ever do that? Hell No, do like turbojeff said and invest it. Do you know how much you are really spending? With all the stock bargins on the market right now that 20K could easily be 60K in a few years. This means your not spending 20K on your car, your spending 60K or in reality more. By the time your 50 how knows it could be a million $$$ depending on what you buy and how old you are right now which I'm guessing very early 20's or so but might be wrong.

Just think how much money you are REALLY throwing away!!!! Is having a cool car worth that? I mean really dude the car is 10 years old!!!! Its not worth it, maybe do it a little at a time over a period of years with "extra" money but to just dump it all at once is stupid unless you have a couple hundred grand left over sitting in savings and your under 30.

just my .02

Later,
STEPHEN

No, those are things that have already been done. My next step is too pull the motor. I want to get a huge bridgeport, then get a KKK Stage 3(or larger)turbo. I'm just wondering what all I could get for the money I have. When I start adding up parts and labor and things, it doesn't seem like I will be able to get evrything I want, so I am asking what you guys would do first. My car is a weekend to, I just want something that's so fast it's scary.

As for investing it, no way! My car is my drug, I need more

Your FD isn't going to provide you retirement funds if you sell it when your 60.

Anyways, are you SURE you want a HUGE bridgeport? A bridgeported motor will not likely last even 20k, probably a bit less. It will also be unstreetable with a terrible idle (unless you like idling roughly at 3k?) and no low or even much mid range power. Especially with a large single.

Oh well, what's that proverb about someone being soon parted with their money?.....

Just wait til something bad happens to his car causing him to lose the money he spent(blown motor, gets stolen, wreck it because too much power on the street, something) you'll wish you wouldn't have spent it all. I'm not wishing bad things on you, but this stuff can happen. Esp. the too much power for the street thing.

I'm not saying I don't dream of bridgeported rx7's, because I do(as does 90% of the forum probably) but sometimes you have to think what your priority is at the moment.

If your priority is to spend 20k on a rx7 then that's your choice. I especially think if you are happy with where your life is at and need nothing else then go ahead and spend 20k on your car but don't waste it on your car if putting it to something else would be better. All I am saying is remember that once the 20k is spent it's non-refundable.

If I would you I would let the money sit for a little then make a decision. Either that or I would at least invest 1/2 of it for now.

Ryan, you need a few more thing to make some of that stuff work. Such as: Bosch 1600cc injectors, you will need an upgraded fuel rail. M2 brake kit, you will need at least 17" wheels. etc. Why are the spark plugs on your shopping list at the bottom? You can pick them up almost anywhere and they aren't that expensive. Furthermore you should change them out ~15k miles.
