Track objective with a crate 13B keg

Hoping you will contribute to a decision I need to make with the engine build plan for my ‘94 dedicated track car.

Im trying to decide whether to tear down the new crate motor to ‘race port’ the housings and replace apex seals. I’d like to achieve a 400 rwhp drivetrain.

The previous engine is donating the BW EFR8374, 725/2200 ID injectors, 255lph Bosch fuel pump, 2 x 19 row Setrab coolers, Koyorad, Pettit Coolcharge III.

I’m adding an AEM AI water/methanol system.

Do I need to port the housings to achieve this hp? Am I taking a risk with the OE apex seal?

I just hate to bust the keg apart from the factory if it’s not essential.

thank you

Stock ports aren't a power restriction at that level on FD's, turbo/boost levels are though.

If it were mine I'd probably pull it apart, but only to get the rotors machines, verify seal clearances and replace the apex seals. If you *really* want to mess with the porting then I'd say send your rotating assembly to Rotary Science (in Norfolk, VA) to have the rotors lightened, clearanced, scalloped, and balanced. Spec your clearances super tight, stack it up, run a disciplined break-in, then send it!

For 400whp, run it like it is. Unless you are in some kind of competitive racing with money at stake, opening it up and only running 400whp is not worth the trouble.

Now I take that back if you are doing the labor yourself and enjoy building motors.
