Stock FD R1 radio

Much appreciated if someone can point me in the right direction to source a good condition stock radio head unit.
Thanks,
John

I can't help you source anything but check out my thread about restoring a stock non-bose headunit, tape deck and CD. The short of it is, these Clarion (non Bose) units tend to have leaky capacitors that then fail and damage parts of the radio. I found a shop in Michigan that can rebuild both the radio/tape unit and the CD player for a reasonable cost. Currently I use a bluetooth audio tape adapter in my tape deck to listen to my phone.

Also, I find it interesting that there seems to be more of a restoration mindset now on these cars. I find that the stock radio and OEM parts look much better than most aftermarket decks and cheap plastic dash kit. Plus the stock radio controls the power antenna correctly, so that it only goes up and down when you actually listen to the radio.

Also you can get stereos from other 90's Mazdas that have more features - for example, one time I got a CD player from a 90's 626 and installed it in an FD. Only downside was the display was green and not amber but it literally plugged right in and worked great.

i just posted in the scosche adapter thread over in the electronics forum about what I did to control the antenna. I wired in a second foglight switch and am powering it off that

i was going to keep things stock, but I needed a new bose head unit, and for the cost of that, I instead got a Pioneer head unit and an OEM single DIN cubby. It's very convenient since it has USB/Bluetooth and the illumination matches perfectly. So it isn't 100% OEM but it is still pretty good.
