Thumbs up Review: Morimoto H4 to HID headlight harness from The Retrofit Source

I've had a set of SakeBomb garage headlights for several years (I believe I actually have the first prototype set they produced), and recently while transferring the kit to another car I somehow ripped out some of the harness wires. The harness I had was an older-style that they no longer use in their kits, so I looked to see what other options were available for replacing the harness.

After shopping around, I decided to go with the Morimoto Bi-Xenon H4/9003 harness which I ordered from The Retrofit Source. It was under $40 shipped with basic first class USPS and it was on my doorstep three days later. I've always had good experiences buying from TRS and this was no exception.

Here's the new harness after unboxing:

Also a show showing the new harness (left) vs. the old harness (right):

The quality is amazing: beautiful housing that looks to be ultra weather resistant with a built in o-ring and weatherproof connectors. The wires are all sleeved, heatshrinked, and also labeled.

After inspecting it a bit more, I noticed was that this new harness used different hi-beam connectors from my headlights. Fortunately it was easy to switch the hi-beam connectors from my original harness:

Hi-beam connectors swapped:

The next step was mounting the controller. It needs to be mounted with the connector facing down to the ground to ensure it's best protected against the elements. I picked a spot on the Driver's side where i could easily access it (just in case) but also allowed the headlights to retract without making contact:

I decided to place a rubber grommet between the unit and the body to help reduce vibrations:

You also need to connect the H4 connector to the harness, which I hid on the backside of the headlight area:

The end result should look something like this:

When you connect the harness connectors to the headlight connectors, make sure to tuck them out of the way of the bracket that extends into the housing when closed. I used zip-ties to hold everything in place, including the ballasts:

The final step is to zip tie the harness wires so they are out of the way and also secured.

Overall I'm very happy with this and would definitely recommend it to anyone with an early version of the SakeBomb Garage headlight kit (with an older style harness/controller). The harness can also be used on many other HID headlight kits -- just make sure to confirm your current kit uses the same types of connectors, otherwise you'll be swapping some of them over.

Anyone else using this harness? Where did you mount the controller?

Thank you for this detailed write up theorie! I'll be installing these bad boys shortly with my retrofits. I'm currently replicating your intercooler build as well, would love to ask you a few questions if you get a moment...

Thanks again!
