Same could be said about people that part out nice examples because the parts are worth more than the sum

You're then left with a project that somebody then needs parts for. It gets cyclic

This kind of thing happens way more than it should. FDs still don't receive the respect that is afforded to NSXs, air-cooled Porsches, etc., and as a result are viewed as a platform for modifications, rather than as an inherently excellent car, by a significant portion of its community.

Attrition due to rust or accidents is normal and happens with any car. Seeing highly original cars being cut up by people under the impression that a widebody kit and single turbo constitutes an improvement over an OEM or OEM+ FD is a different level of infuriating.

I'm betting out of those 5,000, less than one in ten retains the sequential twins and an unmodified bodyshell/panels. Out of 13,000 imported, there are probably less than 500 or so left that aren't someone project, drift missile, 20b-whatever thing. Maybe I'm being too pessimistic, but this is what I see having been looking for an FD for the past year+. My want list isn't even particularly long, I just want a VR/BB/SSM base/R1/R2 in mostly original condition with a straight chassis. They just aren't out there anymore, and the ones that are, are in long-term ownership.

R1 twins with pretty nice stock interior and surprisingly decent original paint here lol She's not on that list because she's been in hibernation in the garage for the past 10+ years. But hopefully I can contribute to that list later this year...if I can somehow convince DMV in the great **** state of CA to issue me a sticker

And you're right I'm one of those long-term owners...never getting rid of her!

Actually, my cars will be for sale in the coming months. Well, at least the (2) VR ones. Not sure about my CYM. That baby is a beauty. Every time I remove the car cover and look at her I am amazed.

I've never had an issue getting my FDs registered in CA. 2 so far, both unregistered for at least 5 yrs prior to my buying them. I'm in San Diego.

Those are some rare cars! It seems most of the ones left are in long-term ownership. I hope they go to good homes when you sell - I'm in Texas as well and would be interested in the VR R1 if you're going to be selling locally.

I see now. Saw the stock interior part and read it as the car is stock. Good luck, I know a few shops have been popped lately, they are cracking down.

Idk if someone would want to crowd source to get a subscription (maybe they have a short term?) but Polk Automotive is where the data comes from. Or, if someone else knows another way of exporting/getting registered vehicle counts.

I'm guessing you mistakenly used the 1993 numbers for 1995 and vice versa.

^ Sounds like they have the years reversed, but that's great info.

Out of the 5k left, how many are good condition stock sequential stock body? Can't be more than 5-10%, if social media is any indication.

so 5000 FDs on the street in the entire USA........

your odds of seeing one in traffic are "this" small and we have the privilege of owning one or more in some cases.....

what a life

yep, except for the pile i've got here, i've only seen one (1) Rx7 in traffic so far this year. it is probably the only one i will see.
the same day i saw the Rx7 i saw this guy, just driving in traffic

the Ferrari is so rare, i can narrow down the one i saw to 3337GT, or 3087GT.

Did the license plate say 3337?
