Rear wheel well rust and mud flaps

I am currently going over my car as I save and collect parts for the rebuild. Corrosion elimination is one huge part of this. In the rear bottom portion of my wheel wells I have quite a bit of rust. I will be cutting it out soon and am curious as to what all the mud flaps cover. The oem rock gaurds/mud flaps.
I am not sure how extensive the repair will be and I want to do it right.
Anyone mind sending a pic or 2 of how far these mud flaps extend rearward from underneath. I may cut out the corrosion, treat it and install the gaurds if they cover it. Once the car is up and running I can have it taken to a pro that can weld properly and get her done.

Drivers side rear. I can see some, but it appears solid right now.

It should cover up most of that. Mine was the same too and I gave the body shop the option of amputating or patching. I think they ended up patching but mine wasn't as bad as yours. Here's a link to a thread on the forum with some good pictures.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, that hole sucks. I always thought that amputating and welding in new metal was the way to go. Bow I hear it will end up rusting again just the same as patch work. Either way it is all about the prep work. I may cut it out, treat and patch it myself. I will be putting a diffuser on also, but that is a ways off. I need her to be back up and running 1st. I do want to stop the rust though. I ordered oem mud flaps today off ebay.

One bump. Anyone else have any comments? Have you felt with this before and if so how?
