Possible to use a HKS Twin Power Unit from a 350Z

Hi Everyone,

I tried searching for this but no luck. Does anyone know if it's ok to take a HKS Twin Power unit from a 350Z and use it for an FD RX7? Of course buying a RX7 Harness to link up to our coils. I came across a good deal for one which is why I'm asking.

Thanks!

Hey man

Just put up in the 3rd gen buy and sell section -I got a good deal for a rotary one with the harness from there. I'd say there will be something different about them. Otherwise, you'd just have universal units

I suggest calling hks and having someone from the tech support tell you what the differences are between both units.

P.S. I would be very surprised if they are swappable. We are talking about a purely electrical component that is based around timing. i.e. pulse frequency, duration, amplitude, ect. But let us know the outcome in any case

its an ignition amp, there's nothing magical about them except how they wire up and how many channels they have.

Specifically, it's a double strike system....... many years ago Rotary Performance put an oscilloscope on a car running one to verify this.

Probably not a bad idea to contact HKS to confirm it's compatible. You say it's from a 350Z, is there a sticker on it telling you the part #?

Thanks for the responses guys. I actually was able to pick up a Rotary version for a decent price. But overall, this looks like a question that needs an answer. I will contact an HKS Service rep. to answer this question.

If it ends up being swappable or even allowed to use the normal DLI or DLI II, this would be a great benefit for all of us since they discontinued the Rotary version.
