To remove and replace an engine depends on where you take it. Cheap end would be around 800 bucks but I've seen it as high as 2 grand. One vendor on here charges 1200.00 to r&r. 800 to 1200 is reasonable

if you mean labor to install its 8ish hours, any other costs should come from things you should do while its apart, like clutches, and vacuum hoses and water hoses and such

Does the replacement engine come as a short block requiring transferring all the long block components on to it? If it comes as a long block, does it come with the correct and intact engine harness for your car?

We bill $1499 to remove and replace the motor. That includes cleaning and transferring the manifolds, turbos, accessories, etc. It does not include parts, materials, or other services such as a vacuum hose job. Many things are free labor when the motor is out such as replacing the clutch. Our price includes getting the car running and driveable.

What kind of an install are we talking here?

If you've got a reman and just have to transfer long block things over, the process itself is really straight forward. The DVDs from Rotary Aviation of Bruce Turrentine removing, rebuilding and installing the engine are pretty comprehensive.

I've never touched an engine hoist or a stand before rebuilding my 13B and honestly, it really wasn't that bad.
A gas station across the street lent me their hoist for free and I bought a harbor freight stand (w/ adapter from somewhere).
