1319 miatas sold in jan and feb 2016. 1090 sold in March which should be a super strong month. I won't be surprised if it sells less than 10k units this year. JUST DAMN!!!! Hopefully the hard top/convertible thing will help which is a much better looking car but again the performance numbers are anemic.
17573 mustangs sold in the 1st two months of 2016
The car will be like the VW beetle was in the 60s and 70s or in other words we are witnessing the invasion of the mustangs.

Who says sports cars don't sell LOL. Build ANYTHING worth buying and people will buy it.

if you want the dumb example, the skyaktive oil filter, was on back order for most of 2012, when those cars came out. you'd think since they had to make a special filter for those that they would have shipped some when the cars got here, but you'd be wrong.
BTW; the PE01 oil filter has a valve that is quicker reacting than a regular filter, because the engine is quicker reacting. aftermarket filters don't react fast enough, and when the oil pressure changes your oil is unfiltered for the lag time of the valve.
double warning because Mazda USA doesn't know this and sells a value part.
actually that is the bigger take away, nobody likes Mazda USA, so if it feels like they missed the memo, its because they did

oh they go much deeper than that, try ordering a part!

Traveled to Fredericksburg yesterday and FINALLY saw the new miata. Not bad; it's like bits and pieces from the s2k, sky and second gen miata. The s2k is the best of the batch though. Or I'll take the s2k for 20k, save some cash and have a much nicer overall sports car.

Mazda pretty much explains that Mazdaspeed variants are childish and Mazda is a much more mature company now. Guess we have or answer.

Mazda is a company that doesn't know the US market or just doesn't care to compete or succeed.

As Fritz (and others) pointed out in the "new RX7" thread, it doesn't have enough power to pull the skin off a grape.
I actually have a young girl who works for me (she's actually 31), who told me she didn't go out on a 2nd date with a guy because she found out he had a Miata. The general public doesn't know about the spec racing series (or care), to them it's chick car.
And, for the vast majority of driving actual Americans can/will do on real American roads, power is more fun the the last little bit of handling prowess. You'd be lucky if you can find 2-3 corners to string together to exploit the vehicle dynamics... but you can always punch it. Read our lips: NEEDS MORE POWER.
Mazda needs to get a clue. Miata should have come with 180hp minimum, and more like 200-250.

I'm holding out to see what the new RX is like, if it comes out... but if patterns hold true, they'll be saying "400 hp", then it'll come out and be 350, and when people dyno them it'll be more like 250rwhp.
FWIW, I rented a new Mustang in Nashville... wasn't the V8 though. It's nice looking. The interior is cheap, and it feels large/long and like most American cars (like the Camaro), the sills/hipline is so high, you can't see out of it very well. The greenhouse is like a tank turret. Handling was decent, but it's no RX7. Nothing really is... but for most people, I can see why it sells.

depending on the kid, the SA and early Miata have a certain joy about them that is maybe child-like though.

The FD was designed in California, and tested around the world... Mazda deserves a little more credit for that.
I'll have to test drive the new Mustang and Camaro someday. I think they're both overweight and poor outward visibility seems to be endemic to new sports car designs. I wonder how a more classic design like the Porsche 911 compares – our local Porsche dealer is snooty, so I've never had the opportunity to drive one.

That said it's all about the numbers/and looks if you want to sell your car in the good old USA.
