I recently got a hold of two editions of the M2 Voice, the M2 member newsletters from the early 90's which contain information on the M2 1020 a prototype version of the ɛ̃fini RX-7 that unfortunately never saw full production; but some parts of its did later show up in the Mazda Australia SP homologation car (somewhat modified). If you don't already know M2 was a subsidiary of Mazda in Japan in the 90's that handled product development, customer outreach and would produce more customised versions of their cars, bodykits and other parts for public purchase. This was before Mazdaspeed was bought out by Mazda in the late 90's and became the official tuner of Mazda. It was shut down around 1995 due to the whole financial bubble bursting in Japan.
I couldn't find anything around here about this so i though i would share what i have, as these newsletters are quite hard to find. I usually use google translate on my phone to read this sort of stuff as its got a camera mode which works live even against a monitor.
These first 3 are from the M2 Vol.10 from 1993 when the car was first announced to the membership, they were seeking feedback and had a scheduled presentation where members could come attend.
This second one is the M2 Voice Vol.15 where they announced the project was being canceled.
And of course as soon as i post this some other threads about the M2 1020 show up in the related thread section that didnt when i did a site search. Lol. At least they dont have this content
Any chance you'd share the scan files? I have a local copy of the old RX7Central scan library and figure this would be a good thing to add to it.
These are scanned / edited pdfs i made, if you would like the actual original scans before i edited the pages together (my scanner get really bad center line blurring if i dont do them in halfs horizontally instead of vertically) i can upload them temporarily too, they are just several hundred MB each.
The Aussies do still make a close replica of that hood. The original aluminum M2 version is called "the ghost hood" in JP because they're that rare. I think I've seen 1 on YAJ in the past 6-8 years. The SP hood is the same profile, but carbon fiber. Only slightly less rare. @carbon man made them originally, but you can only talk him into making SP parts when lightning strikes on a full moon, because he's way busy with other stuff.

Fun fact: Heath at Sakebomb Garage has an Aluminum M2 hood. I got to personally see it and tried to buy it off of him. No dice. Hahaha, this was years ago.
You are correct @Narfle I won the auction in September 2022, and the hood used to be yellow.
We put some serious work into this hood... the back corners by the cowl were both bent upwards. I had the bodyshop / fabricator weld the top and underside to make it look like the hood pins never happened.
Volume 13 is where they discuss changes to the M2 1020 concept.
I had a feeling there must have been one i was missing with more info given how it switches from a GT concept in the first i had to an all out track weapon in the second (actually third it seems) i have. Ill keep an eye on out for it on Yahoo Japan to finish this part of my RX-7 collection.

You still got a really good deal. That was still before things got really crazy. And putting the work into it to bring it back makes it really yours. Very cool.
