How to remove the knob/shift auto lever?

There are two screws on the knob but once the screws removed the knob doesn't come off...

There is a wire tthat keeps the knob attached ( prob. the hold button feature wire)

Yeiks!! Don't cut any wires if you don't have to. Follow the wire from the shift knob to its connector. Then push the connector pin out of the body of the connector. Like this example.
