Help with intercooler ID for JDM 1999

Hey guys,

I am trying to note doqn all the mods and any potential upgrades to help with my new FD.

The intercooler I am not sure what it is. I believe a Blitz but it is like a double wide. I want to figure out the specs to see if it is worth keeping or should I switch to true Front mount or V mount.

Do you know what this one is?

Thank you! That makes sense. A lot of the upgrades are from there.

I understand those are pretty good as far as SMIC go. Search for past threads on it.
That said, all SMIC are a bit compromised in performance compared to a v-mount but if it works for you and ain't broke, don't fix it. FMIC will compromise engine coolant performance a lot more than VMIC.

Thanks for the insight! I will have to do some research for sure. I am also of the mind set 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. If there is a big upside to cooling with a V Mount I might change but need to dig for some numbers.

you can go by temps, if intake temps stay reasonable, then you're good. if they don't, you need to investigate...

Best SMIC that retains OEM airbox and battery that you can get.

Intuitively yes I agree, two IC’s in series would be better than one. Also intuitively looking at it, I think pressure drop is an issue.

Just to note, my battery has already been relocated to the trunk. I do have the room, but I will check the temps to ensure it would be worth it, or if I need it.

If you still have stock coils, be aware that Mazda changed the coil position order for later cars. Using the USDM FSM for guidance on attaching the harness and plug wires could lead to firing order issues (bang!).

Anytime anyone touches your car related to the plugs, watch them like a hawk.
