I've been keeping an eye on shipping fiasco since the beginning of cov. Foreign import vs Domestic export at LA port has been a huge signifier imo.

The ratio is wild plus the fact the majority of vessels are still leaving the US empty. Yep, empty. Crazy. I personally find this very concerning for many reasons.

Just ran through this 10 year old OPINION thread (started in 2014) trying to predict future FD value....... as I recall the current BAT record FD sale is a bit over $100K.
As almost always for most things THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

I'm interested to see what this Current R2 sells for. Not having compression number may hurt the top price point though.

The $148K R2 was an awesome FD.
For grins...here is the opinion of one member on 1-13-14 :

"Unless it is mint...prices going down. Amazing car with a timeless design that will always be appreciated and certainly have fervant supports. Most of them aren't just worth much anymore IMHO because of time + abuse. I literally can't imagine paying more than $8,000 for one."

Oddly enough, that is how much I sold my R1 for in 2008. To each their own I guess. Some people wouldn't imagine spending a dime on a sports car in general.

In the condition it was and mileage, probably $30K+ because it had 150K miles on it when I sold it. Car was in great shape aside from rock chipped paint. Just dropped in a fresh drivetrain as I lost the factory engine due to an oil pump failure. I was surprised it was still on the stock engine at 150K, I guess it was just time.

So in 2034, will we be seen as being low or high today?

Per BAT data at a glance we are on an upward trend:
$100-150K all original under 20K miles
$75-100K all original under 50K miles
$0-75K all others

So if we decide not to sell our $100,000 car for 10 years, what would we have to sell it for, in 2034, to recover storage costs and foregone interest income on $100,000?

And still net $100,000.

Plus maybe another $50,000 to offset the effects of inflation on purchasing power.

Until the thread petered out, many of the comments seem very fair appraisals of what would come.

Well....that was a blast from the past. It's hilarious to go back and read that stuff. The old forum idiots arguing with Fritz and I, I forgot how exhausting that was when I used to engage on the forum more. Even with the uneducated commentary from some of the typical members back then, I do miss the community that this forum once was. T-Von.....whatever happened to that guy? Man some of his old posts are comedy gold. Either way it is weird to look back a decade ago and see myself agreeing with Montego and Gordon, I never thought that was the case back then. Hilarious looking back and seeing Mazdaspeed's post about his 95 CW base with 11K miles and Fritz and I were trying to offer him around $30k for it. Lol
