Attempted theft-damage-please help!
Hey all-
My header says just about everything. I have my '93 parked in a "secure" garage, but nonetheless some low-life SOB tried to steal it, breaking the left lower side of the dash, one of the vents, stole the ashtray, (of course) broke the cowl around the steering column, tried to drill out the ignition switch (destroying it), and more. I'm insured for comp, but that doesn't solve the issue of parts.
Oh-also, for some perverse reason they took one of the rear shock covers....why???!
This morning I finally went and took pictures; I discovered it last week, but I'm not quite sure when the theft attempt occurred. I keep the car there over the winter. Here in Seattle, well, probably enough said. I don't find the car that interesting in the rain, and I have a Volvo 850R
Sedan that loves it, so the choice-to me-is obvious. But because I don't drive it every day or even every week, I'm not quite sure when it was molested.
Anyway, it makes me sick. Hence the delay between the discovery and this morn's pics. You guys probably know-it's not just the theft attempt, it's the violation one feels.
Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. Btw, like I said, it's a '93. It WAS close to mint-51k original, new Pineapple Racing street port w/'99 twins, RFP1's (18x9.5 w/ Michelin SS's), Ohlins coilovers.
Thanks a lot in advance. Happy rotoring!

That really sucks. I'm glad they didn't get away with it.
Do you pay rent at the garage where it's parked? If so maybe the owner can help, since it's his property.
My car's been sitting in a garage in a shady part of town for months. Still trying to get it running right. I think I'll drive down there today and take a look.
Hoping the best for you and your car bro. Good job not killing someone when you discovered it.

I do pay the owner' the car is in the sub garage (gated 24/7) of a rather upscale apartment building. Had they got it, I have a Lowjack, but all they did was seriously f#$k it up. If I find out who the culprit is....well, I'll leave it unsaid. Life will follow a different path for him, 'nuff said.
I always undo my battery...and do check your car. I am currently searching for a private garage...and when I find one, I will alarm it.
I really love this car, but frankly, it's kinda been one damn thing after another. Thanks for your condolences! Good luck getting yours running right....

hope you catch the fool! Did you get it finger printed by chance?
My condolences.. it seems the Montego Blue 7s are a target lately. Mine was the victim of vandalism a month ago where someone decided to carve D-I-C-K into the hood and run a rock along every panel. It is infuriating and you just feel helpless.
I suggest getting a jdm ashtray to replace the stolen unit. The jdm tray may be easier to find, and is a nice upgrade. A replacement ignition may still be available thru Mazda. The shock tower cover may be discontinued along with the rest of the plastic parts. I would place a WTB (want to buy) ad in the for sale section.
Good luck.
Good luck.

rather ironic, since the ignition is only actually held in by a single small easy to remove screw. that doesn't address the steering lock though, but i doubt that is really that hard to break.

Man, that is horrible!

Wow -I feel for you. Thanks for your condolences. Actually, I put this car in a "secure" garage because some punkos put a road work sawhorse on its roof a couple of years ago...mainly scratches with one small dent. I don't understand the attraction of screwing up someone's stuff. Makes one want to do something crazy.
My best wishes for good paint and body work...by the way, yours looks a lot like mine! Are your RPF1's 17's or 18's?

No respect, makes you wonder what people are thinking some times. Drilling out the ignition tells you they were trying to take it. Fortunate there. Ashtray and shock cover sounds rather specific though, kind of a strange combo that was taken.

Ray Crowe sells the rear shock covers for around $50 each, I just ordered a pair. You can email him at Crowe.Ray@aol.com with the laundry list of parts you need and Big Ray will take care of you

Maybe a cover would help, just so the tweakers don't see something shiny and get attracted to it.
My town is no picnic either. (BTW, I went and checked out my car. It's safe, sound and almost finished up)
Hey, I'm in the MB Army too!
