Advice needed - thinking of selling my FD

Hi there,

I have a quick question about selling my '93 silver touring Auto (KDRotary did all our work and had converted it to manual). I was in a pretty bad motorcycle accident and thanks to the massive cast on my leg I couldn't fit into the car and let it sit, and sit.

That was in 2003 - I had always thought I'd get it back up on the road but now 3 kids later I don't think its going to happen LOL.

So my question - it was running fine until the 14 year sit down but now of course doesn't run and leather is faded (wasn't covered) - is this now considered a rolling chassis? Just don't know where it should fit in for pricing etc. I must have a stack of notes from folks leaving on the windshield - would appreciate some honest feedback as to what a fair price range would be.

Thank you - Joe

You would be much better off if you were in a position to make it a runner again assuming a thorough detailing would bring the body and interior back into a good condition. Otherwise you're looking at $5-8k since it's a non-running swapped car that's sun damaged and tired.

Pics would help tremendously.

IR Performance is in Keansburg if you are in NJ like your info says they could fix it up.

I agree, it may be worth spending some money to make the car saleable then selling it. IR is a great resource for doing the mechanical end of things. They know RX-7's inside and out and are an honest shop with a good reputation.

Put a little money into it and you'll get a lot more out. Hopefully it can find a good home and you can keep another of these increasingly rare cars on the road.

Spend the money to fix it otherwise someone will buy it and part it out. Save the machine

Where in NJ are you located? I am in Central NJ (08817) and may be able to come by and check the car out.

Price will hinge on if it needs paint or not and the mileage on chassis. Just got the paint quote for my FD yesterday that was sitting in the elements for 7-8 years. It was $5k and that wasn't including jambs/engine bay etc. That was soda blasting it down and fixing 3-4 small dents and a couple surface rust area. I'm in TN and this is repeat customer pricing. Post pics, mileage and any other info you have and we can gauge the value. It will likely be between $6-12k depending.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Forty - I grew up in Edison on Woodbridge Ave. EHS class of '86! Car is in East Brunswick. PM me and I can give you the address if you want to take a look. I am also hoping to get there soon to take some pics to post. I now live about 1.5 hours away.

I get that restoring the car is the best bet but I simply don't have the time (took two weeks to even reply, I'm just slammed). That being said, I do love these cars and would rather it get restored than parted.

Thanks Dale.

More often than not, getting a fd running will pay off in the resale. Its only in some cases where the car needs a motor and extensive work where it may be a break even proposition to fix it and sell it. If you need anything just get in touch with me. I'll be glad to help.
