Who makes the best rebuilt motor?
#51
Tripoint engineering rebuild is most expensive.
Tripoint Engineering just did my rebuild to the tune of 6k parts and labor. Hows that for a wallet raping! I have no complaints about their work except that it's too darn expensive!

Quote: I finally ended up getting covered under warantee (wish I could spell ). So it's another Mazda reman for 20k-30k miles
My warrenty covered it as well, but I paid the cost difference to have pinapple build mine about five years ago and it still runs great!

don't race, don't need to
11,000 miles and counting on stock rebuilt reman from Pineapple. Nice work, and he took the time to go over rotary operation with me AND the girlfriend. Engine runs nice, no issues. Was less then $500 I believe to have them tear down the drop shipped reman, find the rotor bearings that were sub-par, rebuild it nice, and I picked it up and re-poped it. Easy! I also had mine done during the period Pineapple was having unfortunate problems with quality control, but no probs on mine. Look for 93BlackFD for the other side of the issue, though there's been some response to that that makes his and others' experiences a little non-typical...
Do your homework, CALL AROUND, and consider the implications of modifications to the original design. Stock lasts longer than most of the mods...

The Man
Pettit Racing all the way, Cam has the know how to build the motors to last! Mine' s got over 50K miles on it and I've installed 13 motors in various 3rd gens over the last 7 years of Cams that are all still running. Many running over 350hp to the wheels reliably for several years. Pay for it now or pay again later, your choice.

(1) What do you mean by "-double Apex Seals?" springs perhaps?
(2) Are these solid or 2 piece corner seals? Appears 2 piece, why not solid?
(3) Regarding "-rotor Oil Control Ring Upper And Lower," are these upgraded at all, or just the standard ones put in all rebuilds?
(4) Where do "-competition Front And Rear Stationery Gear Main Bearings" come from? what brand?
(5) OEM "-water Sealing Rubbers," or upgraded? Which is the inner and which is the outer?
(6) What exactly is "-oil System Upgrade For High Flow Lubrication?" What do you do to the engine?
(7) How is "-modified Oil Pump" accomplished?
(8) Who is "-cutten Rotors For 3mm Apex Seals?" How long have they been using this process?
(9) Please explain "dms Racing Gt2 Ports (40% Flow Over Street Port While Still Maintaing Range In Timing)." How are the primary and secondary intake ports different than a standard streetport, and what is done to the exhaust ports?
(10) Please explain this better: "On Sale For October And November For $4700.00 With A Good Core." So are you getting a reman to start with? Or will the price rise as parts (ie rotor housings) must be swapped out?
(11) Would love to see an explanation on this: "--gt 2 Ports Must Have Good Turbos And Good Engine Harness To Be Reliable............ Will Fry Any Bad Turbos"
(12) Do you recommend upping the duty cycle on the MOP to compensate for the increased wear caused by the 3mm seals?
(13) What kind of warranty do you offer?
(14) Is the warranty all-inclusive? Do you cover turbos as a result of apex seal failure?
(15) Does the quoted price include engine removal and reinstallation?
(16) What fuel system is recommended to run these revolutionary new GT2 ports?
Ok, so maybe it wasn't exactly 20 questions. Eagerly awaiting your reply

I had my motor built a Rotary Power and was very satisfied. Jeff and Allen are competent and have an excellent track record. Previous posts confirm that. For about a week, I was trying to figure out how to make a proper flow bench to check port configurations for a Rotary. This is just another project I was thinking about but probably would never build. I stopped by Rotary Power to shoot the SHT and ran my idea by Jeff. He immediately told me of a flow bench he designed and used for a while to develop his port configurations. I was impressed “AGAIN” and besides his idea was better than mine. The guys JEFF & ALLEN are sharp. I would use them again if I needed to go that rout.

There are many reputable places. Would not recommend going with some new place that spouts off like the guy up above. I never expected a reply.
If you decide to do it yourself, there is definitely a steep learning curve. Best thing is to convince someone local to 'work for beer'

True, but he sounded like he knew a thing or two and it wouldn't hurt him to try and back it up. Or at least spit off his website, or phone number for inquiring minds.
Yes this is not a project I want to go into blind, especially not the FD. Maybe my first gen, but not the FD. I am still deciding if which route I will go (build myself or buy). If I can find someone local that has built a motor before and will just stand over my shoulder that would be fine too. I think I have most the tools to do the job, but not the full knowledge of how to on the rebuild. Although I have the a video!
Here is the list of builders that have caught my eye (in no particular order):
KDR
Gotham Racing
Pineapple Racing
Rx7 Store
And since I want a race port (oil mods ect) and will be upgrading to a larger single turbo, I may want someone who has done this once before to go through the rebuild.

Dude dragon motorsports has posted their number countless times on this forum....305-820-8710....my motor is currently getting built there right now. Oh and some of the guys from this forum that are doing the rx tuner mag came by the shop today while i was there and were taking a few pictures. Maybe they can post some pics?

Has anyone worked with N-tech engineering out of Winter Haven? I will be in need of a motor soon, and Nick from N-tech was the only shop that actually took the time to call me back and asked me what I wanted and what my options were (I send all of my emails with a contact number for myself). All other's just replied by email, which is great don't get me wrong, but that phone call made the difference. I know not all shops can do that due to time restraints, but that was one of the greatest thing's a shop could have done for a potential customer.
Any inputs, please? Also, Rich, I find it quite admirable that you do not push Gotham Racing. Great job my friend! Most would jump at an opportunity for a shameless plug.
