When did they stop making the RX-7 for the Japanese market?

I heard the RX-7 continued production in Japan ater it was discontinued in the US. Is there any truth to it?
If so, as anybody tried to import one?

You never heard of the 2001 Rx-7 RZ? Who said that they stopped making it.
It is hard to import them because the J-Spec motors do not have EGR. They will not pass US smog. Also it is a pain in the *** to drive right hand drive. It's not the actual driving but think of drve thru and parking structures.
I drove a skyline for a day and it was the little things like that whick made it a pain.

after 1995 the rx7 was not imported to US for sales anymore. But Japan kept the RX7 and is still for sale. I have never tried importing a Japan RX7. It would be a pain is the ***, trying to pass the emmisions, and having the steering wheel on the right side.

Something I've always wondered - does anyone know if the RX7 is made in left-hand drive for any other markets, such as some countries in Europe and (I believe) Australia? A good example of that is the Mitsubishi Lancer - available in LHD in other countries. If that were the case, it seems to me like it'd be relatively easy to rig a exhaust gas recirculation system and a couple of catalytic converters where necessary.
