tires

I have been very happy with my Pirelli P-Zeros, They have 12,000 miles on them and more than 1/2 their tread left. And they were only $140 each at www.tirerack.com Anybody else using P-Zero's?

No such "BEST" tire exists anywhere at any price!

Each has certain advantages for certain applications or usage.
Wear, speed reliabilty, braking, cornering, responce, wet or dry traction, etc.

You get a tire that ranks highest in the criteria for your needs.

What are your needs?

What is a good wet weather tire, but is still good in the dry. I live in Vancouver where it rains like 75% of the time, but when it is sunny that is when fun driving starts. So I would like a tire that is good for both. My friend uses Firestone SZ50 on his Talon and he loves them what do you guys thing.

255/60 16's??? what are you driving, a cherokee?

I'll assume that's a typo and you're looking for performance tires for a car (because i know nothing about what would work for trucks). I've narrowed my search down to Perelli P-Zero's, Bridgestone Potenza S-02's, or Michillen Pilot Sport MXX3's

but yeah, depends on what you want out of them... handling? hooking up for draging? long life? wet traction? etc. etc. Those listed above would be best for handling & quick response.

I have Dunlop 9000's and REALLY like them. They are truely and awsome wet tire and dry tire, according to Tire Rack one of the best they've tested also. To top it off they also have a very good tread wear rating.....according to my father in law(he works at the Dunlop plant) they have some special type of new chemical mixed with the rubber that makes the rubber very sticky yet durable.

If my memory seves me correct I paid about $630 for them shipped from TireRack.com They also had a very high customer satisfation rating on the Tire Rack web site.

Oh yea, they also launch VERY good for drag racing, especially for a street tire. And have VERY VERY VERY low road noise.....I use to think my car had real bad wind noise but when I got the 9000's on it all that went away and my car is MUCH quiter now!!!

Later,

Victoracer is a road race autocross tire. The Escata 712 is the street tire. Both very inexpensive. The S-02 is a great tire. Also the Yoko AVS sport is a great tire. As far as long life is concerned I wouldnt even consider treadwear unless your wanting to make sure its soft enough. High treadwear means hard compunds= bad performance. There is a happy meduim but for all out performance look for a treadwear of 200 or less.

I posted basically what I'm about to post somewhere else, but I suppose it fits here too...

I have Kuhmo Escatas on my MR2 - the 711's. I would hope that the 712s are better because the 711s suck *****... feels like you're driving on silly putty when transfering weight from one side to the other. Same goes for the Nitto 450s.

Something to look for in a tire is the tire's weight rating. The higher the weight rating (as in, the more weight it can support), the stronger the sidewall. The stronger the sidewall, the quicker the response & more feedback you'll feel through the wheel. These are good things for cornering.

Maybe a weak sidewall would be good for good grip off the line? I don't know.

Also, treadwear ratings are not standardized. a rating of 300 by one manufacturer doesn't mean that it will last as long as a 300 from someone else. I don't know how close they are between manufacturers, but I know that there isn't an offical standard.... The only thing it really means is that a 300 by, say, Goodyear will last twice as long as a 150 by Goodyear. Another common misconception about tire ratings is the traction rating - that's gauged by braking force, not cornering force. The tirerack does their own tests for cornering & is worth looking at.

PS - I have "Firebird" by ASAP stuck in my head - anyone into breaks needs to hear that track.
