Tires losing their balance?

What's been your experience with tire balance on your FD or any other car? After you've balanced your wheels, how long have they stayed in balance? Does it seem your tires go out of balance easily, or do they tend to stay in balance a long time?

I'd be interested to know.

I've just had the tires/wheels rebalanced on my FD and it drives like a dream. I can't believe how smooth it is. I don't think they were way out of balance, but enough to notice the difference.
I last had them balanced about 7,000 miles ago.
What I also noticed is that the new weights went on about 2 in.
from where the previous weight was, and it was exactly the same for every wheel. I'm not sure I've ever noticed that happening before. As I remember, usually some wheels are out and others are okay.

What's it been like for your car?

I did a rebalance after 15,000 miles and I could tell a big difference. It was great for about 5,000 miles and I can already tell that it is starting to come out of balance again. I talked to a couple of tire places and one told me that there are different types of weights that can be used and that they are putting the cheap ones on my wheels and that could be the problem. Of course, the way I drive, I am going to have problems anyway.

On my cars, I rebalance the tires at about 20k mi. Maybe it has to do with the hard driving wearing the tires excessively... I wonder if your tires are evenly worn.

My tires are evenly worn. The only thing I can think of is that maybe under hard braking the tires move a bit on the rims.
You'd think with ABS this wouldn't happen, but I'm not sure.

If the tires were moving on the rims under acceleration, or hitting bumps or potholes, then you wouldn't expect all the tires to have moved their balance points by the same amount.
