should I replace the thermostat?

I think the radiators in these cars become inefficiant with time, check www.absoluteradiator.com for a new fluidyne ($412)

To answer your question.... replacing the T- stat is very simple, simply take out the air box and diconnect the Thermostat housing and voila, there it is. Be sure that the spring part of the t-stat is on the engine side!

Depending on how the coolant was take care of, I think that at every 40 is a good time to replace the tstat. Some will think its a waste of time. The tstat is cheap and not that hard to replace. It's definitely a bigger PITA to pull the engine and replace it.

Also, the tstat, may not fail outright, but the efficiency of it may decrease; ie. the amount it will open at the specified temperature may be less over time, thereby decreasing the cooling of your engine.
