Question Racing Beat cold air inlet

Anyone tried the Racing Beat cold air inlet?

http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=18301

Is this any better or worse than Rob Robinette's mods to the stock intake? It's certainly a lot cheaper than most aftermarket intakes. I'm wondering which way to go...

Thanks!

I put one in my friends rx7 and there is a good increase in power. However, there are draw backs, like robing more air from the IC and you have to cut the IC duct for it to work. It makes it hard to go to another intake without replaceing the IC at the same time. But it is a great bang for the buck.

I had one in my car with k/n drop in filter. It was a definite improvement. It will give you about 10 hp but like earlier stated it robs air from the ic and if you want to do any ic mods you are VERY limited. The only 2 ic's that will work with the RB inlet is the Blitz and Greddy stock mounts - but the Blitz isn't worth it - too small. But for just a few mods for $150 or so with the k/n it is definitely worth it. I would look on partstrader.com for a decent intake used though.

Isn't that the one that is said to cause problems...sucking hot air backwards or something.

Cause isn't the right word. Any intake like the stock box, RB duct or even the PFS box that takes air from the IC duct has the potential of sucking air from the engine bay through the hot intercooler. Personally I use the RB duct w/K&N filter and GReddy intercooler. It's a great combo. I have pics and comments on my site.

Is this a big enough problem that it would be worth it to pay the extra for a different intake? The M2 wouldn't have this problem would it?

Well that is the question isn't it. I guess it depends on what level of performance you are after and how much $$$ you have to spend. Personally the idea of this air being sucked backwards bugs the hell out of me. However for the price of the RB duct and the performance my car has with it I am happy. With this said I do plan on switching to a different design, one that I will create. I don't feel that the M2 box should cost so much but it's design is probably the best one right now just like most of their stuff is the best.

i just bought one from RB yesterday, i haven't put it on my car yet, but RB told me using chasis timing systems on highway(regular dyno won't work, it relys on ram air), the time significantly improved.

i like to comment on RB's customer service, i was VERY statisfied, they were out of stock when I went to their warehouse, but the guy there said mazdatrix took the last one, so he called mazdatrix and told them to hold on to the air duct although it was already sold to another customer, and sold it to me.

I have the RB air duct too. When i installed it, i cut out a large hole in the bottom of the stock air filter housing. The ran a peice of aluminum tubbing from the spot beside the radiator, to the bottom of the stock intake. Now, if you listen realy hard, with the windows down, you can hear the blow off valve. But i'm very happy with the intake too. CJ

I've read the bad things about the Racing Beat intake, but I find it hard to believe that they would sell something faulty with their impeccable reputation. Madatrix even sells it.

RB intake

For those of you in seaching for an intake. If you don't have the money, save and buy a high quality and "last" system. Don't just settle for crap like the RB intake. You will eventually get a better one. Beside , it limits your choices for an upgraded intercooler.
I personally got the M2's because of its quality and logic . Yes it is expensive but I don't have to worry about the intake anymore.
nuff said.

I personally believe that if you don't have the money, save up and get the best system . Whether it be a body kit or intercooler.
You will hate your self down the road.

Thanx for the comments but ONLY 290? That is respectable with no porting, no mid pipe and 11 psi. As for the 20.8 mpg that has actually gone up a bit since I updated that part last. 21.2 now. I drive it every day so don't always get happy with the boost. A lot of highway miles too. The other thing is keeping things in order like fresh plugs and oil. On the track I don't know for sure but something as low as 10 mpg wouldn't surprise me with how fast it gets used up.
