QUICK DECISION: 2mm or 3mm apex seals?

I need to get back to Rotary Performance within the next day before they drop a new engine into my '93 RX7 (TT) on whether or not I want to upgrade to a hand-polished 3mm apex sealed engine.

I would like to get a boost controller and jack up the boost on the car eventually (I have a 1 year warranty on the engine), as well as EVENTUALLY add a single turbo upgrade (lots of money, but lots of HP I hear )... and I've heard that the 2mm's don't hold up well against that kind of stress?

Convincing my parents to add in an extra $1,000 (price of the upgraded 3mm engine) to the cost of the car isn't going to be easy, especially with the explanation of "I want hundreds more horsepower!"

IS IT WORTH THE EXTRA GRAND (and the potential trouble with parents?)

P.S. I have the potential to work a couple of website deals to grab around a G. Perhaps I could throw that into the proposal with the rents?

Looks like you're not going to get a quick answer.

If you have your fuel maps set nice and rich so that you don't get near the point of detonation, in most cases the 2mm will do you fine. Once you get that single turbo, if you plan on pushing ungodly amounts of boost, then you might want the 3mm.

Its pretty much a preference thing - some tuners prefer 3mm, others prefer 2mm and they all have their own reasons why they are right and the other guy is wrong

I say 3mm. Better sealing means stronger engine means higher boost pressures. I have them in my car but still on stock turbos for now. boo, but I did talk my parents into paying for it. HAHA.

no reason to go 3mm unless you are not in spec tolerances for 2mm's to work on the existing housings..

just get good quality 2mm seals..ala hurley engineering..
