Noticed anitfreeze around ast. Advice needed please.

Hi i have a 93 and around the ast i noticed some antifreexed today for the first time. it apears to have leaked out of the rubber hose that attaches near the cap. i tried to push that on there a little further and noticed it seemed a little loose. should i put a zip tie around this or is it suspose to be loose to let off presure or something. also what would cause it to do this? any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you, Scott

You might need a new hose. I think your hose might've stretched a bit over time and it's time for a new one. Either that or eliminate the AST.

It is beeter to replace it with an aluminum one. Removing it reduces the amount of coolant volume and lowers the cooling system's efficiency.

The AST removal arose from racing where the cars are modified enough to negate the removal effects: much larger front grill opening, larger radiator, heavy duty oil coolers, etc.

Many owners perform the removal without obvious consequences, but then again...maybe you don't really need auto insurance either. Isn't every bit of protection worth it?

Hehehe. Good thing I'm not in the insurance biz. Actually I guess if you could afford to replace your car with cash, you would be better off carrying only liability and personal injury.
