Question For you 89 Turbo II guys

I recently bought an 89 Turbo II that I am trying to get back to stock and in working order. The previous owner had rigged up a cone intake and a 929 AFM that I don't think was working too well. I have what I believe to be the original plug that has 7 wires that are the following colors: BR, BR/BL, BR/BL, BR/WH, BL, GR, GR/OR. The problem is that there are only 5 wires coming off the harness that are as follows: BR/WH, BR/BL, BR/BL, GR/O, GREY with GR SHIELD inside. So by my count that is 7 wires to 5.

OK. Checking my 88 n/a (yes I know it's not the same, but I was hoping it would get me in the ballpark), I have 7 wires going all the way into the harness. I checked the Haynes manual schematic (which shows an 88 but says 89 model similar) and I see a couple of wires that tie in together but I must be an idiot because it's not helping me too much. The plug for the variable resistor is missing as well and I'm thinking this might help as the schematic shows that it ties into the AFM as well, but I don't know for sure. The GREY wire with the GR SHIELD inside is really confusing me.

I have an extra AFM that is for an 88 n/a that I would like to make work until I can track down the correct one (the junkyards here really suck for 7's), but I would really appreciate any info for getting this set back up for stock.

Thanks.

Dan

I think there is only 5 wires. you probably have the wrong plug

edit: yes only 5 wires plug into the correct 89 turbo AFM.

Thank you.

I guess 88 and 89 are not as similar as the Haynes manual says. Guess that also means I won't be using the spare AFM I have either.
