Just regular anti-freeze in a 50-50 mix. stay away from the red and orange coolants though. Stick with the green.

Gets pretty warm in Kentucky (unlike Texas.)

Try 70/30 water/antifreeze, and throw a bottle of Redline Water Wetter into the mix.

Can't go wrong with Prestone.

See the factory service manual for the recommended mixture for each temperature range. The more water in the mixture the better it will cool, and the more antifreeze in the mixture the better it will keep from freezing in cold weather. Always use distilled water in the mixture, as tap water will leave a lot of mineral deposits in your cooling system.

The stock cooling system is very prone to air bubbles. Did you flush it in accordance with the service manual?

Also, the thermostat will fail after about 80,000 miles, so it is good to replace it during the next coolant flush if you don't know when it was last replaced. Use only Mazda brand thermostats, as the aftermarket thermostats are junk. Also make sure to use a torque wrench to tighten the thermostat housing bolts corretly so you don't ruin the housing, which is a common error with these cars.
