Would you buy a Carbon Fiber T2 or Duckbill spoiler?

so...

would you?

trying to see if anyone is interested in these. thinking about making a mold and making some :icon_tup:

Rx-7fetish 01-12-12 07:42 PM

Personally t2 but I know the majority would prolly want duckbill. This sounds like an expensive venture though.... Most FC guys are all over the concept stages but soon as time to pay comes the crickets are even gone.

airman90 01-12-12 08:14 PM

t2

mannyFC 01-12-12 08:58 PM

If I had to choose, I'd say T2 all the way. Put a good price on them and imo they'll sell like hotcakes :)

jerd_hambone 01-12-12 09:07 PM

Duckbill.

schaft 01-12-12 09:14 PM

A really good price woul have to be below 300 for this to really take off

LoLsmileyFC 01-12-12 10:44 PM

hmm the t2 seems more popular than the duckbill ill keep you guys posted takes about 2 weeks to make the molds =]

tuscanidream 01-12-12 11:00 PM

Duckbill. The t2 spoilers look kinda odd from the rear in my opinion.

LoLsmileyFC 01-12-12 11:03 PM

hmm ill probably make some t2 first and see how that goes first then if its all cherries then go with a duckbill.

we will see!

GuiltySoul 01-12-12 11:39 PM

more interested in these 2...

LoLsmileyFC 01-13-12 04:39 PM

anyone interested in carbon fiber s4 s5 aero carbon fiber mirrors?

Bryan Jacobs 01-13-12 04:56 PM

Mite be interested in cf t2 wing, I'm fairly certain the cf duckbill is already available from carbon creations.

jerd_hambone 01-13-12 05:06 PM

I think you're wrong haha

BLUE TII 01-18-12 11:44 PM

CF stock sport "duckbill" style please.

Proven function with no increase in drag in Mazda's Miyoshi wind tunnel.

Make the whole factory aero kit in CF.

Drop Cd from .31 to .29 and decrease rear lift from .14 to .07 to match the front lift of .08.

Wind tunnel developed!

I'd be in for that. I'd love to have a full sport kit.

LoLsmileyFC 02-24-12 10:55 AM

update!

have one duckbill in production as of right now.

will post pics up when its ready!

does not come with bolting holes double stick taped will be used to install the wing for those of you that dont like drilling holes into your fc.

3m vhb tape ftw!

sharingan 19 02-24-12 11:05 AM

functional peices typically need a little more sturdy mounting than double side tape will provide. However the sport spoiler is small and in CF it should be light....I guess that'll work.

I'd possibly be interested in both the T2 wing and S4 aero mirrors in carbon fiber depending on price

sharingan 19 02-24-12 11:39 AM

Neither of those are perfect, the yoursport comes down too far in the rear and looks awkward, especially the keyhole area. The Tamon is cool except it looks weird from the side and it appears to be designed for a vert since it doesn't come all the way across.

It would be nice to have a spoiler that combined all 3 designs. Something closer to Hypertek's modified duckbill might be a good starting point.

a la...

Duck Bill

HOZZMANRX7 02-24-12 01:05 PM

Duck bill

LoLsmileyFC 02-24-12 02:19 PM

that yours sport wing is too big in my opinion.

it would probably look nice with some wide fenders but with the stock body it just looks too bulky.

edit.. dont want to risk a cf spoiler flying off the car at 80mph so the wing will come with mounting bolts as well.

ill keep you guys updated!

+1 here. S4 Aero Kit in Carbon Fiber would be downright awesome and I'd be the first in line to get one. Price it right and you won't be able to keep up with demand.

i think spoilers make fc's look dated or ricer

make these that dont cost a stupid $300 for us guys with aluminum N/A hoods who want to rid ourselves of excess heat

Just so we're all on the same page.... So the stock functional aero is ricer, and the classier option is to cut a hole in your stock hood and rivet on a piece that looks like an vent for an industrial air conditioning unit....that about sum it up?

Logicalbomb 02-26-12 05:18 PM

Alright here is the real. Wings are "okay". I hate to point out the elephant in the room but carbon fiber diffuser = sexy & aggressive. Say no to spoilers. The T2 Carbon is a very good looking hood, I do like the vented carbon fibers on N/A because of heat release etc etc.

I guess bottom line if I had to choose between profiling myself as a riced out teen, or decreasing weight on my car by adding a CF TII hood... I would definitely go with the hood. It is functional, beautiful, and wont get you made fun of :D

jerd_hambone 02-27-12 08:44 AM

You do know that the wing being spoken of here is a factory piece that is actually functional, right?

Yes, next question?

FC3S_nataku 02-27-12 12:45 PM

you do know that a carbon fiber hood would only be marginally lighter then a stock NA/T2 aluminum hood?

Okay. I'll play. What about a factory piece makes it "ricer"?

Aren't the aluminum N/A hoods a bit lighter than carbon fiber?

jameskato 02-27-12 01:46 PM

Post up some pics of the CF wing when they are finished!!! Can't wait to see how they turn out.

IMO- Anything carbon fiber makes a car look better. functionality is only a plus!! haha

spahn1 02-27-12 03:05 PM

does any one on here have a vert with a duck bill? i would like to see what it would look like

Alright ricer is about perspective, and I am sure that by reading my comment you've gathered that it is PURE SPECULATIVE OPINION. But as this thread was started on the premise of providing an opinion I have done so. My opinion is a wing on an FC3S factory or not makes it look "ricer". Also, the wings aren't factory to all RX7 models they where a later addition. I believe a diffuser versus a spoiler keeps the integrity of an RX7 which I have come to know and love. I do realize the thread was "which should I get between these two" so I stated my opinion on which one I would chose and why. Further elaborating on why I myself in my own OPINION would choose a rear CF diffuser over a wing stock or otherwise.

For the aluminum versus the CF hood! I don't know which is lighter I assumed without any prior research that the CF hood would be. This was not only speculative reasoning on stock versus CF weights but also do to the fact that my hood feels heavy as shit. I would hate to be working inside that engine bay and have it come slamming down on me. This could be because the base model of my FC is an 86 SE.

Your move holy man.

Osirus9 02-27-12 04:13 PM

Duckbill

I have the s5 spoiler and I want to switch to a duckbill :(

"For the aluminum versus the CF hood! I don't know which is lighter I assumed without any prior research that the CF hood would be."

I have a carbon Fiber TII style hood (not pictured). It is so much lighter that I have to essentially slam the good down for the stock hood latch (designed for the lightest Aluminum hood made for an RX7) to catch.

I'm pretty sure a alloy hood skin (no structure) is lighter then those "CF" hoods. I wrote "CF" because those hoods have a FRP structure with wet lay CF skin. Those are only for looks, and not properly build upgrades. They will be lighter then steel hoods, but then again; my mom riding a whale will be lighter than the steel hood...

Riz.

Aside from perhaps your disturbing comment about your Mom riding a whale (certainly trumps any Tijuana stories), you couldn't be more wrong.

As I commented in the post above yours, I have to essentially slam my CF hood for the stock latch to grab because it's so much lighter than my original stock Vert Aluminum hood.
