Would i need spacer

would i need spacer if i get 17x7 with 40 offset. the tires are 205/40/17 in the front and 225/40/17 or i can just put 215/50/17 in the back. would i need a spacer so that the tires wont hit the springs. its stock now but plaining about lowering it an Inch. i know that the stock rims are 40 offset too. im just curious.
