would this be a bad tps?

car runs good but idles really weird when its cold. then once it warms up it runs like **** and has a huge loss of power and sometimes stalls when i am coming to a stop. today i unplugged the tps with the car on and it immediately cut off. i have looked for vac leaks with ether and replaced most of the lines and come up with nothing.

the car is an 87' na.

thanks.

Have you checked the resistance on the TPS??? If not, I would start there!! once the car is at normal operating temp, turn it off, unplug the TPS and, with a DMM(digital multimeter), check the resistance.. looking at the MALE plug, put the leads on the top side ways pin and the right pin!! At idle position resistance should 1kohms and at WOT it should be at 5kohms +/- 1kohms!!!! with the leads on the sideways pin and the left pin I believe resistance should be 4kohms-6kohms at both idle and WOT!!!

Please some one chime in if I got that wrong!!

That should tell you if it's good or not!!!

Well, "really wierd" doen't give us much to go on. Could be a lot of things. First, check the engine compression to make sure you are not wasting your time trying to track down a non-existent problem with the TPS or other engine component. The "huge loss of power" suggests something other than a TPS.

If the compression is reasonable, then you can start checking for possible faulty or mis-adjusted components like spark plugs, TPS, timing, and so on. Get a copy of the factory service manual (free for the download at one of the links in the FAQ) and then systematically work through the bad idle matrix checking each idle-related component according to the instructions. There are a bunch of them.

Just a thought. Have you replaced the plugs lately? If so check to make sure the plug wires are connected to the correct plugs. If not, take 'em out and have a look.
