Is it worth making a NA turbo?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...481499850&rd=1
I got to drive this, and got the FC bug. It seemed a little sluggish though. How hard is it to turbo the NA engine, and how much should I expect for it to cost? This engine was just rebuilt, so I dont think a swap is worth it
Thanks for whoever can help me

its possible. I have done a few swaps (currently doing one in a vert right now). I find the swap a better car dollar for dollar. If the engine is fresh, sell it. You can also sell the tranny. that should off set a bunch of what you will spend.

The turbo swap isn't worth it. If you want a turbocharged car, just buy a TurboII for $500-1,000 more than a comparable non-turbo car. Besides having a different engine block and turbo, the TurboII has a stronger transmission, driveshaft, halfshafts, limited slip differential, and larger clutch and fuel injectors. It's just not worth swapping all of these parts given the low cost of an actual TurboII car.
If you are considering racing, just keep in mind that the non-turbo FC can race in many more classes than a turbocharged FC, and the upkeep will be much more expensive on a turbocharged FC race car.

Also keep in mind, it may seem a little sluggish to you because you're not used to the power band of a rotary yet...You can't punch it at 2K rpms & expect it to whip your neck back...

Actually, I think the TurboII is sluggish around the corners when compared to the lighter NA FC. When it came time to thin out my collection of RX-7's, the TurboII got the axe because it simply wasn't as much fun as the other cars (and my 1Gen only dynoed at 100hp, lol). Also, I find it interesting that the person who bought my TurboII recently bought an NA Sport for racing, rather than bothering with the TurboII.

Muahahaha. I agree with all of you. I find the TII's to be sluggish, too, but I drive a 2400 lb NA with enough mods to make it faster than a stock TII, so it's really no contest. Now, a modded TII would be a different story . . but the turbo lag really sux for balancing the car at the limit of traction post apex in a turn on a race track.
A supercharged NA might be fun . . I might try that some day, but for straight line speed, it is much easier and/or cheaper to just buy a TII than convert an NA.

i agree unless your delaing with a vert. that si what I have done all my swaps in. I am half tempted to do the full swap less the turbo and go camden supercharger - just for the fun of it. In other words, gain the 4 port and beef of a turbo with the supercharger.
