Won't shift into ANY gear with engine running?
Won't shift into ANY gear with engine running?
Can't get my '87 into gear when she is running. With the engine off, I can shift into all gear, including reverse.
Any ideas how I can fix this, or get it fixed.
Thanks in advance.

check your clutch master cylinder and make sure there is fluid in it..also is there any resistance when you press the pedal? if not then the master cylinder is not building any pressure, if there is fluid and still no shifty then pump the pedal a few times and see if you can get pressure to build then try shifting
If you put the car in gear while off, and the hold the clutch down and try to start, does it lurch forward? If so, the clutch is not disengauging, whereas you need to start checking the hydrolics, as said above.
Hay guys, thanks for your response.
This is really weird. I took your advice and started the car in first gear. It seemed hard to turn over, but it finally started. Guess what? I could shift into reverse and back the car up. Then I put into first again and it moved along. All of a sudden it started to shutter and there was a THUNK and it stalled.
What does this mean?
Is this a master and cylinder? Is it a cluch? I checked and there is fluid in the master cylinder.
Thanks.

Have a friend step on the clutch while you watch (or feel) the slave push rod motion.
When the pedal is down the slave push rod should stay extended.
If it creeps back in, you have a master or slave cylinder leak.
If the hydraulics are working, then the problem is in the clutch or pilot bearing.
