Not sure, if this should be here or in audio, but it is very specific to the FC. Basically, I am trying to wire up door speakers, and bypassing the door amp. I found that if I disconnected both the plugs out of the door amp, and connected them together, I got some sound out of the speakers (in reverse stereo, but still) however when I turned my stereo off and on again, no sound, am guessing i overloaded something. so I disconnected the plugs I had just connected and turned the stereo back on, worked fine again.

I guess my question is, does anyone here have the pin-outs of these two plugs? I plan on making a "cross-over" assembly which will allow me to connect these speakers without blowing up my head unit. (I would cut the wires and solder them directly, except that I would be soldering about 10cm from my face upside down, which I dont find ideal...

I did a search of the forums and didnt find anything all that useful, but I am sure someone has encounted this before... ?

The reason for disconnecting the amp is that it is sub only, and I want full range from the doors, and I will eventually disconnect the dash speakers.

I have a 89t2 coupe with passive seat belts... just fyi..

is your stock deck the cd/tape/radio with AE?

 

Sorry, no, aftermarket JVC head unit... and new speakers in the doors and the rear..

 

in my mind I woudl find it much easier to run new wires instead of dealing with stock plugs and such

 

^exactly...just junk the stock amps...and run new wire from the head unit to the speakers...job done.

 

hmm.. I guess that is a pretty good option... how hard is it to run new wires? I guess the worst part would be trying to get the wire into the door, oh and the fact I dont have the head unit handles, so I cant actually take the head unit out....

 

^yes you can...you don't need those "keys" for your head unit. Just use 2 small flat head screw drivers and insert them in the slots for the "keys"...then with a little negotiating you can slide the head unit out.

As for running the wires...Get yourself a BIG ziptie and clip the square end off...then if you need to run wires through a tight spot...such as through the door jam, all you need to do is tape the wire to the zip tie and thread it through. It will be stiff enough to push through most holes...but flexible enough to go around bends and such.

 

I dunno, I have tried getting the head unit out... it was put in professionally, so it is pretty tight. I will give it another go, and cheers for the tips with the zip tie. I will give that a go when I attempt this.

trust me on the head unit thing...unless it's alpine (which has little pins on the side you need to release...then you should be able to remove it with 2 small screw drivers (I'm MECP certified and worked in car audio bays long enough)
