From what I have seen, a lot of ugly hanging wires aren't stock, but rather aftermarket stuff that the installer did a hack job on. You should post pictures of what you have so people can tell you what it is.

I don't think that people posting pictures of their wiring setups is going to help much.

You should start with the factory wiring diagrams, as in the ones found in the FSM and Haynes manual. While they do have a few issues, these diagrams will go a long way to help you identify what needs to be done.

are the emissions gone? if so, then there are alot of wires that are not used anymore. what i did was go through the wiring harness and followed all the wires to there corrosponding connections. whatever wires were left with nowhere to go, chop! you will need to completely untape the whole harness to do this, up to the firewall at least. this will help you a great deal.

if you do untape the harness then use a good quality tape to redo it and it will look and last much longer

its raining right now.but ill describe this mess.
looks like every wire in the harness was cut or slit and twirled and taped over.
electric tape has been far abused passed its standard. if i were to take out all the electric tape i can prolly cover the car. the battery is wired to the back of the car using the seats as grounds. I seriously dont want to deal with this whole setup.

if the engine harness is Crap,I would just get another used one.
This would really save you the headache of trying to track dwon wires that lead to where-ever.
At least you would Know from the new Stock harness, what is suppposed to go to what, and then eliminate anything that you do not need and you are good to go.
Used harnesses go for cheap on the Sec gen parts section(40 and up for n/a.,average about 60-75 bucks...50 and up for a TII harness.average about 100 bucks)
