OK, I just was trying to find any vacuum leaks ect. when I noticed that the #1 plug wires (L1 and T1) were going to the #2 housing. The freakin meat popcicle that owned the car before me hooked em up wrong. The real freaky thing is that I got this car to run the other day. I uncrossed the wires and now it still won't start, but I think i got that figured out. Gotta go see if the plugs are fouled. Just thought I would share.

Both of the leading coils fire at the same time, so long as L1 was still on the leading plug it would fire when it was supposed to, along with the waste spark. The trailing spark would still be wrong though - Probably why it ran, just not very well. I actually ran my car with only trailing spark once (when i installed my ignition amp and forgot to rehook the ignitor up) and it ran, just really deeply and smelly.

Lucky you didn't drive the car hard with the trailing and leadings backwards... you would have blown the apex seals on that rotor

No, the trailing and leading were right, just on the wrong rotors. The #1 wires were on the #2 rotor and visa versa.

yeah that means your timing split would have been backwards, with the front rotor firing second. that would leave you with no useful timing split under boost, so i'm sure it would have lasted a LITTLE while if you had been driving it hard.

Damn, its a real good thing it never left the dooryard like that. I have no idea how long the car had been run like that. The last person to have this car running is a total moron, and I am told that he beat on this motor.

Great, now I have another question. If he ran the motor hard (which I am sure he did) with the wires crossed, I should check the compression right? Now I have heard there is a way to check the compression with an average compression tester. How is this done?

Thanks for the help.

Well as far as the leadings, they are interchangeable and no problems would result with them being swapped.

Then your plus are almost certainly fouled. Maybe some new plugs and more unlooding will help it.

Good news.

Well, I couldn't wait till this weekend so I put new plugs in today. The kid that last had it running never tightened the plugs in properly. They were all loose and fouled bad. No wonder I couldn't get the thing to run.

Oh, well. It seems to run fine now. Starts easy and idles well, till it warms up. I have read a few threads that talked about idle pulsation. the T2 will idle steady at 1500 until it warms up. It then jumps up and down from 1500-1700. Is this normal, or should I worry? I took it out on the road for a very short time and it seemed to have good throttle response and power.

thanks for all the help.
