wiper motor linkage bushings, some info

If you have broken one of the plastic bushings on your wiper linkage (the arms from the motor to the the wipers that actually cause them to move) then you have 2 options: buy an entire new arm or try and find replacement bushings. the latter being the cheapest and probably fastest way if you have a dremel or sander, and possibly a hacksaw.

I went to advance auto and bond auto parts. they do not carry this specific bushing but did have some universal type ones...that did not work/fit. instead of going to the stealership, I tried NAPA auto parts and low and behold! they had a universal bushing labeled wiper linkage bushing for fords. about the same size BUT needed some sanding in spots and grooves cut vertically to work (look at your stock bushing on the other end of that arm or other one and you will know what I mean). you make "teeth" that can bend inward like the stock bushing so you can get it in your linkage arm and also makes it easier to put on the ball. don't forget to grease it before you put it on the ball, this is a pivoting joint. This was for the bigger bushing on the arm from the motor to the passenger side wiper.

NOTE! the linkage arm from the pass wiper to the drivers wiper uses smaller bushings then the other arm, which are easier to find. its the big ones that are hard to find.

hope this helps you guys out! the bushings can also be found at O'reilys I have seen and theres may require less or no modification to work. I just read someone found it there but don't have that store near me.

I'll try and make a little ms paint picture if that helps? I'll try to get some picks of the bushings I used on here, maybe even make another bushing so you get the idea. I'm not disassembling that system again though, sucks to get in the small openings to do all that stuff.

mine doesn't look pretty either, I was rushing as I need the car for work and its a rainy week. I just wanted to get the damn thing in the arm and on the car. it works, people won't see it anyway. now, to fix my faulty wiper switch so more then medium speed works lol.

isn't that bushing the same one that the headlight linkage uses?

the smaller bushing on the drivers side arm linkage MAY be the same as the headlight bushings but I'm not 100% on that, I just know its smaller then the passenger side-to-wiper motor arm linkage bushing. thats the one I had to replace and its a decent size bigger and thicker then the headlight bushings. I assume its because its the linkage that transmits the movement from the motor to the wipers so its gotta be beefier.

btw, used my wipers with my modded bushing today for around an hour. I have stiff coilovers and bumpy roads and it held up and worked fine in town and on highway. wooooooo
