Window problem

Well I just bought an 89 vert with a blown engine. Recently had it rebuilt..runs smooth but my friggin windows dont work. The passenger side works but wont roll all the way back up. it stops about 3/4 of the way. and the driver side doesnt work at all. The switch doesnt have the spring in it. COuld that be the problem...any suggestions?

does it make a machine gun sound? as for the switch missing the spring, that is a problem. it wont make proper contact. you can try to gently open the switch and perform surgery by installing a new spring if you can find one laying around the house that will work.

the non working window is probably not working because the switch to them is bad. a new switch would cure it. rub some lithium grease on the "chains" too. try pulling up on the glass when your rolling it up. that will help, although a pain in the *** when you have to do it every time.

i had this same problem and i fixed it, it broke again, fixed it, broke again.... long story short, i have manual window cranks in my car now, lol.

Either the window motor is bad, the switch is bad, or you have a blown fuse. Check the fuses first. Still no work? Find a good switch and see if that makes it move. If the problem persists replace the motor. There's really not a lot to the windows, at least not in a coupe. I could be wrong about a vert.

Before "finding a new switch" (which most of us don't exactly have just laying around) you can just jumper the wires on the switch and see if the motor works.
If it does, then you know the switch needs work.

take the door panel off. find the wire that connects to the interior door panel light. connect it to the motor plug. it should make the window go down if the motor is still good. to make the window go back up, simply take 2 jumper wires and switch the + and -.

I have A 90 vert with the same problem does anyone know were i can buy a switch thats not gonna cost as much as a Wii , or even a way to put manual crank windows. Both windows dont go up but sometimes when i press to go up i hear a click and the interior lights dim out just a bit ( so i know theres contact being made its just not making the window go up, ( also does it affect the connection if i take the passenger side off( took the metal pieces of that one to put in drivers.)
