Will this race pipe fit my vert?

I am looking at a few simple mods for my vert, and this was going to be my starting point, but I need to know if it will fit on a 91 vert with a manual transmission. It is the Bönez 2.5" Race Pipe with Presilencer that RX7.com sells:

http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/2catalog.cgi?cat=4&part=2

I have heard that the 'verts have an extra crossmember that makes fitting some exhaust components very difficult - is this true, and will the pipe fit?

thanks,
Kris

Kris,

I am sure it would work, but shouldnt you be spending your money on your 10th AE?

get a set of headers and a silencer.. you will be MUCH happier.. especially on a vert.. trust me i had one..

ADD: also, it will not clear the cross brace.. it will touch it slightly and you will hear a buzzing coming from it.. y ou will either need to lower the brace by adding washers and getting longer nuts OR dent the brace so it does not contact. race pipes need this...

as far as headers go, pacesetter will not fit.. i had them on my vert and ran it w/o the brace at all.. i compensated with a front strut bar... the racing beat ones will clear the brace ( so says RB tech when i call).

any more questions about the vert feel free to email me at scott@scottym.com and i can help you all you want.. i dont have mine anymore for reference but i got a great memory and spent countless hours working on her.

scott

I think I will just try denting it first... Any suggestions on how much to dent it and what I should dent it with?

thanks,
Kris

I was reading the website, but it does not say what the pipe bolts up to. Does it hook up to the exhaust manifold? I assume it would, but I have not read anything about that.

What does the race pipe bolt up to?

It bolts to the exhaust manifold.

The brace is not hard to remove, and a hammer would be my tool of choice to dent it- pull it off, put the pipe on, put it back into place and mark where it needs modified, then pull it off and give it a few good taps. Repeat as needed. It doesn't take much.
