will a clogged main cat affect the idle?

will a clogged main cat affect the idle?

as the title said, it is possible? I know the car won't pass emission if the cat is clogged.

If it's clogged to where no flow, yes it will definitely cause a problem. Years ago I purchased a Chevy that was advertised that it needed engine work. It wouldn't hold an idle, and when in gear (automatic) it would buck and stall. Bought it and took the manifold to muffler pipe off and found that the inner shell had collapsed. Put a new one on and made a tidy sum on the resale.

If someone taped your mouth shut and held your nose, would it affect your breathing??


sorry bout being a wiseass....jk but anyway the engine needs to breathe in AND out. Time for a new cat I guess....

sure, but how can you tell that the main cat is clogged without taking it out. fail emission is one way. any other symptoms?

It'll glow. Taking it out is a snap though. It's like four bolts and 20 minutes. Just do it, peer inside, you'll be able to tell pretty quickly if it's toast or not.
