Wierd timing issue.

I was checking my timing today(my car is bucking over 5 grand under full throttle and while cruising the car bucks slightly)and found a strange problem. I can check the trailing fine but the gun wont do anything when hooked to the leading coil. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Well, as I was leaving work this afternoon the car was running like crap. I pulled over at the wally world and popped the hood to see if I could find a broken hose or something. I glanced down at the CIA and something about it looked different. I inspected it closer and noticed that it had turned and thus my timing was off. I reached down and tried to spin the CIA back and it was loose and the stud that the retaining bolt screws onto fell off. Its broken in half. So now I have two issues...lol. Can I unscrew whats left of the stud and just go down to the Lowes and get another stud of the same size? And im still not sure why my leading is not working with my timing light.
