Wideband O2 in stock O2 location
Hi all, acquiring a wideband (AEM UEGO) tomorrow and I'm wondering if it's safe to put it in the stock FC location (exhaust manifold, just before the downpipe).
My car is still NA so I don't think EGTs would be insane, but being unable to check EGTs in advance I thought I'd ask before sticking a brand new O2 sensor right near the exhaust ports.
Thanks

Common advice is that is shortens the sensor life. "OK" Depends if this is for a health checkup or long term install.
I've used one on a turbo car in the stock location a few times, running for a few hours each. Readings were consistent so I don't think I did any real damage.
A heat sink adapter is the halfway solution but it's close to the price of a new sensor.

The AEM manual says that the maximum temperature is 850C, so I guess I'm wondering if the NA EGTs exceed that temp at the end of the manifold. I don't know what normal EGTs are for an NA 13B.
EDIT: I guess I have my answer, https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/egt-range-na-car-823085/
1750F = 950C. I might get away with it but probably not going to risk it.
EDIT 2: The manual actually reads that the max EGT the sensor can handle is 1030C. So it might be safe to use it in the stock location.

its fine, i've done it a bunch and never had a problem.
the EGT's on the S5 NA don't go above 700c, they had to warranty the converter.... the S4 will be hotter, but its still fine.
i've also just put the O2 in a piece of pipe and clamped that on the tail pipe, i used a plumbing part with the rubber removed, something like this guy, not sure what its called.
mine wasn't ribbed either, i wasn't trying to impress anyone

I too am a breaker of the rules and have ran an AEM uego sensor in the stock turbo location on the Downpipe for years and never had problems.
just note I probably only put 1000 miles/year if that on my car.
I also did buy a replacement sensor to test my original sensor and they read the same.
