Ive been told that when you install a new sound system you should rewire your fuel pump.

The question is not how to rewire it but why?

I got no sound system, radio is not even working. But my battery's voltage is is between 13.8 and 14 V all the time. Sometime its at 12 when i start.

is there a way to install the sound system without having to rewire the fuel pump?

I have never heard of this in my life.I have more damn stereo and audio equipment in the damn car, its not even funny and I never rewired the fuel pump.

 

I think what you may have been told is while installing a sound system you will be running wiring through anyway so it may be worth checking your fuel pump's wiring in case it's bad, and also while wiring anyway installing a fuel pump cutoff switch for diagnosing problems and unflooding can be a very worthwhile investment.

 

Large wattage stereo systems tax the electrical system. My old system was about 600 watts, with everything, head unit as well running off of the main 4 gauge wire I ran to the storage boxes. My voltage would drop so low at idle that my stereo's "main relay" would switch off. It was dropping to below 10volts. I uppgraded the alternator and it was fine after.

Anyway, rewireing the fuel pump because of a stereo is only for things like this. While it is a good idea to rewire the sucker if you are running engine modes its not really needed for everyday plane Jane cars.

If you just are going to throw in a deck with its own built in amp you should be fine. Maybe a small amp with it, you should be fine, Big Assed sub, just rewire it for peice of minde.
