Why is my exhaust smoking?

Out of the blue the other day while my T2 was idling it started blowing blue smoke from the exhaust. It is a T2 with a Jspec motor I put in last year. Twice now while idling for more than 5 minutes it started blowing blueish smoke out the exhaust. Each time ZI turned the car off then turned it back on and it went away. I dont seem t see any while driving. Just twice at idle. The first time I brusshed it off as a piece of burning carbon, but now this is twice this week. Also still idles fine and pulls hard. Any ideas?

I've been having the same problem, according to Juan (ITO) of JR's Rotary fame it's a sign the turbo is wearing out.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Honestly I would be happy if it where just the turbo, I have a back up. Does yours smoke only occasionally as well?

My last car smoked at start-up before the turbo blew an oil seal. It didn't do it after I rebuilt it so I guess that's what it was.

Mine has done this as well. So you guys think it could just be the turbo? Hmm, well when I get my turbo upgraded I guess they'll have to rebuild it as well.

You’d be silly not to. I thought that was part of the deal normally. Get the wastegate ported too, preferably with a bigger flap to maximise port size.

I plan to just buy a much larger external wastegate anyways so I can keep boost down when I want to.
