Uh.. Does the ECU disable the aux ports in 5th gear? I could do about 130 mph in 4th gear in my '88 S4 NA with questionable port operation. I haven't done a high speed run since my engine swap & S5 intake upgrade... I seem to remember a 5th gear disable signal for the ports on the s4 wiring diagrams.

What a scary thought it is, some "complete psycho riced out punk" trying to break 130mph in his pos '91 NA, driving on the same streets that you and I do. Car is probably already on it's last leg, if not it will be shortly with this kind of crap. Not to mention the fact that you're more likely to kill someone than impress them doing this.

Fail. miserably.

I got my GXL up to 133, it was stock except for intake and header - but that car was in good condition and always running v rated tires.

What's wrong with airing out the 7? If you are on an interstate with no one around I don't see much of a problem.... If your equipment is questionable then no don't do it...

however for "testing purposes" I don't really have a problem with seeing what you can get out of it. Our free society is based on individual freedom so long as another persons freedom or safety is not compromised. if you are out there screaming passed school buses full of kids or innocent travelers on the road then that would not be acceptable behavior. however, the individual has the right to be stupid, and we should accept that.

You violate someone else's safety & you should be held liable. I wish I had a nice place to do high speed runs. I used to until hurricanes screwed up the barrier island highway run to the nuclear power plant.... it was always deserted at 3:00 am. Now the road is all full of potholes from construction vehicles & dump trucks. I have to go to the interstate to run, but its not as deserted - so I don't do it anymore... oh well.

I guess I'm gettin' old - back in the day you could get away with doin' stupid stuff - it's not like that now... oh well...

I found that with my NA it never really had enough power to do anything that wasn't controllable. It just doesn't have the HP to get totally out of control unless you are a complete MORON. It was/is very difficult to exceed the handling capacity of an NA S4.

Ask your mother about my V-Tech kickin' in.... Just kidding... I better be careful... IceMark is on the prowl.... I might get in trouble....

Honestly - if you can't do more than 120 there is a problem... Therefore you shouldn't try & go that fast because you aren't in good shape. Sounds like you have some work to do.

Can you explain how YOU going 133mph on a public highway is any different from the thread starter going 130mph? Or what you did to make sure that your car had no mechanical failures at that speed? Or how you are sure that the thread starter hasn't kept up with maintenance on his vehicle?

Because this is America and its full of pussies that have nothing better to bitch about.

If you can't exceed the handling capability of a car then you're not driving it hard enough. It is a very predictable car due to the weight distribution if thats what you're getting at...

The short answer is physics. When my convertible was stock with about 130,000 miles on the engine, it maxed out at 122 mph. There just wasn't enough "oomph" to overcome the drag.

I've solved that problem.

You read my mind! It doesnt go past 120 because it doesnt want you to die. Guarantee its on some 15 yr old, sun hardened 195/65/15's H rated crap.

Can't think of why top speed is some important! You plan on running from the cops?

First of all, wind will make it harder for you to go any faster.
Drag plays a large roll in top speed as well.

Hows the compression in the engine? What octane are you using? How clogged are your cats?

I was only able to hit 130 or so a couple years ago in my S4 which had a S5 engine @115psi on all faces, open exhaust, true CAI in high pressure zone and some other add ons. That doesn't tell me crap about performance though. Acceleration was fantastic.

Top speed does not tell you **** about your cars performance. To many variables to keep in mind. Maybe im just to old but I care more about acceleration performance than top speed. Racing to top speeds is very dangerous anyways. What if someone pulls out in front of you?

I know, I know....I'm making some assumptions here. First of all, my GXL was in excellent mechanical condition - it only had 75K on it and had just had a full maintenance done with new Kumho's. I did my speed test on a deserted piece of highway like most of these guys are saying.

Now my major assumption was that the OP's car was recently bought, probably had been sitting for a while and could use some TLC. Might not be the case, the car could be immaculate and the OP very dedicated to maintaining the vehicle. But judging by the nature of the question I was leaning towards the idea that he recently got the car. Most 7's will need a good work over before driving them hard due to their age, that time and heat from the engine likes to deteriorate things like hoses and brake lines.

But more than that, I was just being a hypocrite for the fun of it. I think the main point is to be sure your car is in good condition and try to be as safe as possible if your going to try to top out your 7.

seriously, 1.) I hate when people think thier car is fast because of the speedometer's top rating or of how fast they can get it to go. True preformance is acceliration times (AKA 0-60, 40-80, 60-100, etc...)

with the windows down, (IMO) you have to be loosing a good couple of MPH from drag.

LMAO da noob cant qoote?!

Crossing the double yellow costs MORE than solo in the carpool. If you cross the DY it is a moving violation with points, if your just solo, it is the same as a parking ticket in the eyes of the courts with no points. I got pulled over by a LAPD motorcycle cop. He asked me why I didnt get out of the carpool lane when I saw him, and I told him the same thing I posted. He let me off, that and I was a LA county/city certified fire system tester/inspector might of helped lol.
