I noticed the little pineapple racing thing in his signature too... seemed like an advertisement to say the least.. there is no real logical information in this thread, just some really 1 sided stubborn views.

Ted what are you saying here?

if the yoohoo belt breaks, and you need a replacment why can't you use a regular standard belt to get you home.. are yoo hoo belt custom with pulleys?

I use a green traction drive belt on stock pulleys. I also get an added option to buy in the event, I break a belt. I can go to a lawnmower place or a auto parts store, either way I still get a belt and back on the road..yes? no?

ted seemed really disturbed by this whole thing.

And how can a yoohoo belt be easier than a dual pulley when its 2 diff size belts and the guy already said he has to stay in the store and trial and error the 2 diff belts to get them to fit proiperly.

And why hate on him if he knows his way around the forum rules? His not braking them. Just pulling a politician move. MOre power to him.

i missed sevenstock because 1 of the belts broke on my dual belt setup.. I knew the remaining belt was a bitch *would squeal, was a little too thick and was of different length then the prior*.. and that broke on my way to the auto store too.. so i was lucky enough to get there even though the car did get hot since there was no belt on the water pump.

I had a fun time trying my luck at guesstimating what belt to get.. bought 1 at kragens, didnt fit, then tried to go up another size, they only had 1.. so i walked over to autozone about a block away and took a better guess and bought 2 belts.. Walked back to my car around the block, and those worked out good.

I suppose it would be a good idea to know the measurements or have cross reference part numbers incase something like this happens since you no longer can just ask for a standard alt. belt.

Ive had 2 incidents in my old 240sx where i happen to have lost an altenater belt, and both those times where not fun at all, esp late at night and 30 miles away from home.. Driving on the freeway like a mad man with no lights on just to save the battery charge to get home.. crazy.

Does no one think to buy 2 yoohoo belts and keep one in the storage compartment as a spare? That would pretty much eliminate the "Well it's only one belt so if it breaks you're screwed" argument

I have dual belts, and maybe I got lucky but they were seemingly the same exact size. I can image that if one belt were longer than the other it would only be by 1/4 inch or so and the smaller belt would eventually stretch to the larger size.

My dual belt works great, I have not had any problems with it so far.

Also not trying to discredit this other belt, but it sounds like it goes on much tighter, which could lead to premature water pump bearing failure. Just something to consider.

finally someone who made some sense of it all- its a belt its not a spare motor.
Order 2 or 3, murphys law says you will never have to change it again if you have a spare.
If you do use your back-up belt thats when you order another one.

I mentioned it in my previous post, but here is my belt set-up. Not a 1/2 hour thing thats for sure, but if you want ribbed belts and AC this is how I went.
This would be something you would probably do if you have the engine out of the car and your rebuilding things as its too much trouble just to change the belt style.

You know what, I used to break alt belts all the time. My guess is i just never got the hang of tensioning or something. Since my double pulley set up I never break alt belts. Not one. As far as finding two the right size, i go to napa and get two of the same and presto, no problems.

I did have some concerns about my charging system being underdriven, and that was why my car wouldn't stay charged, so i got the one with the rotor on it that is stock size. It turned out to be the light for my igniton switch never went out.
If i can find another one just like it i'll use it in my other t2 instead of the RB one

To me, using a pry bar to force a belt onto two non-adjustable pulleys is not exactly an ideal solution. It's almost inevitable that it will somehow damage the belt, scratch my paint and put a lot of stress onto the water pump pulley. With a fixed length belt I can only imagine how much stress is put onto the water pump bearings if that individual belt is just a little small (we all know that belts vary in size a little).

I'm very curious about that. Did you have an electric fan or clutch fan?

If your alt belt breaks, you can get somewhere within roughly 20 mins off batt power. You blow the water pump belt, your dead in the water. The Gates belts are awesome as far as not stretching, breaking, or glazing.
But when you have two belts on the water pump and alternator, it's double the redundancy.

IMHO, the Yoohoo is the way to go. You will NEVER find 2 belts that are the exact same size when running the dual pulley setup. You dont get enuf contact with the water pump either.
It's funny, but I've never had problems just going into the auto parts store, buying two belts, and having them fit. Generally I use Gates.

Awesome feed back, and I really dig the serpentine setup! I just always get strong opposition about the yoohoo belt from people here locally and was wondering if there was some magic goodness about dual pulley. No one around here ever gives me a good reason why, so thats why I brought my question here. I'm not going for ease of installation because if that is whats more care about than wow. Long term and short term affects are what I wanted to discuss and finally his thread got on track. '

Sorry if I came off one sided or if it seemed like I was trying to sell ****. I am in no way trying to up-sell products for Pineapple. Rob shorted me on a clutch job I did for him and I really haven't been back since. Thanks to aaron, robxx7, and everyone else for giving thoughts.

hahahaha. thanks for the concern. The ninja products were fun and still are neat, it was something Blake Qualley did for me and Dan. We both felt like hot **** having our own small product line at our heroes shop when were 20 years old. The yoohoo belt is and was one of my favorite products because I could take that thing on and off dozens of times and it never lost its size/shape/effectiveness.

the yoohoo belt slips, I don't want cavitation so a nother 15 dollars isnt so bad compared to a damaged cooling system.

Glad its not just me. Hell I used my 2 year old alt. belt and another brand new belt that was a different brand and it fit fine. Tried to use my old AC, PS and airpump belts but they didn't work lol

I live in Hawaii.
You think we carry tractor parts here?
How about a lawn mower shop?

I can try and cross reference that Gates part number, but there is no guarantee that it's going to be in stock.
I know the Gates belt for a 1986 - 1991 Mazda RX-7 water pump / alternator is going to be in stock - it has always been when I asked for it.

The key to running two belts with the double sheeve pulley is to run two brand new belts.
Also, CHECK the belts before you leave the store.
Someone reported that there are different belt profiles within the same part number for Gates - the V profile is different!

I've never had any of my belts fail when doing the above.

There is a Gilmer drive (i.e. wide toothed) belt system and pulleys for the FC.
Last time I saw the whole thing priced around $300+.

Why didn't you just buy 2 alt belts? Why did you have to guess a stock belt?

would it be stupid to run the dual alt belt pulley and fabricate some kind of bracket to align the air pump belt to go where the A/C belt would go on the main pulley if its been removed?

Gilmer drive

I use a dual sheave pulley with an Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley on mine, gates belts in the sizes that UoR recommended for the underdrive pulley.
