vmb is correrct, dummy here gave the catalog reference and not the part number. Its FC02-60-960. Sorry for the screw-up.
Hozzman, the parts catalog ('89-'90) does not have both a "gas level" and a "low fuel" sensor. I looked rather hard but could not verify that there is a sensor for the low fuel idiot light. That's why I suspect there is a direct signal from the gauge itself based on the needle's position. That's all I could figure. Maybe someone else has a more detailed electrical schematic.
Also, might it be that a working fuel gauge but no idiot light means the bulb is blown?

Nope, there are two separate sensors
The gas guage sensor is a black box float on the end of a swinging arm that in turn connects to the fuel pump assembly via two nuts.
The Low Fuel sensor is a small bullet looking thing on the end of a fixed arm the in turn is held to the Gas Guage sensor by a single screw.
Laid on it's side with the fuel lines pointing to your right and fuel pump at the bottom, there are three electrical connection points along the bottom of the Fuel Pump Assembly mounting plate. Running left to right, the first connection point is for the Low Fuel, the second for the Gas Guage, and the third is power for the fuel pump itself.
The way it's put together, I can see why they would want to sell two fuel sensors together. But, it would take about 5 minutes to exchange the Low Fuel sensors by themselves (one screw, one nut).
I'm going to try and retrofit the working one (at last use) from my '88 fuel pump assembly into my '91 and see what happens.
Thanks for the extra effort for the part number. I'm also going to price that out with my best sources and report back to complete this information loop.

Yup, I was right...
You can only get it as a two sensor assembly. I got a price of $59 plus shipping. So, total cost depends on how much I can leverage my shipping costs against other things I order at the same time. But, could be up to an additonal $10.

My gauage doesn't work at all and neither does coolant so I put after market collant gauage. Is there a magnet or something that operates both in the cluster .... Wire diagram picture shows them connected together by some weird coil with a wire going thru it and my warning light is intermittent also lol gremlins

LOL
It's the standard symbol for a variable resistor. The needle moves as the resistance to current changes.
Thank you for the laugh.

Sorry, I'm late to the party...Officially, the low fuel sensor is set to come on when less than 4 gallons remain. Mine does work. The needle is on "E" before it comes on. First, it starts to come on on stops and turns. Then later it stays on. In fact, I dont fuel up untill it comes on.

i recently did all the resoldering jobs on my vert but i still cant get my low fuel light to work right. my series 4 86 sport's fuel warning light broke shortly after i purchased it, also.
everyone chime in and tell me....do you have a fuel warning light that operates properly?
